I think its like you said they sense something is off. I have a few personal ideas as to why people feel this way. 1. Communication is a two-way street I believe that when we communicate we send off “vibes.” If for some reason we are uncertain about something, analyzing, and trying to respond they c...

I am a psychology student. I frequently feel frustrated with the lack of help for adults with Autism. Anyone else inspired to become a counselor, psychiatrists, vocational teacher etc., to make a difference? I chose to re-trade nearly 6 years ago and began my training/study to become a counsellor. ...

How did she stay in business? She didn't. When I started with her, she'd only been in it for about two years and she lost her position at the facility a few months after I left. I was disappointed because I actually wanted to work with her outpatient but she moved on to a different field. Definitel...

I think an autistic psychologist would be a relief to meet. I have had dealings with several NT psychologists who claim expertise with autism. One told me I can't have autism because I'm married with children :? . Another said I seemed to really care about other people and animals which isn't what ...

Are any of you aspies on here psychologists or psych majors, or do you know any aspies who are? I ask because I got my bachelor's in psych, and am currently applying for grad schools for clinical counseling. My end goal is to get a Ph.D or Psy.D. I sometimes feel quite isolated in my chosen profess...

I was recently diagnosed with autism level 1 (Aspergers) and was searching on this topic because I think I may have an autoimmune condition. This was posted in 2012 and the topic is still relevant. In the last weeks or so I have been exhibiting some symptoms, extreme fatigue, heaviness in the fronta...

I experience similar exclusions. I am close to my 30s and was diagnosed less than a year ago. The person that diagnosed me is not available to continue to counsel me. So I've been trying to get support here in my state. Twice I was turned down by professionals to get referrals and once I was ridicul...

100% puertorriqueña, My lineage is as pure as it gets, I was born in Ponce and my parents are both Puerto Rican. I, however, was raised in the US, some of my extended family and my father still reside on the island. Some of my customs are watered down, such a shame. But, yes I also have Aspergers. I...

Hi,
I'm not new but I've never introduced myself and I rarely post. So I thought I'd let myself be known.
I am a female in my late 20's and just recently found out that I had aspergers (autism level 1). My hope is to be better educated and meet some people along the way.

Generally speaking, I believe that people think that people with autism (Aspergers) can’t empathize. Based on myself I think it has more to do with the inability to predict on how to respond contextually. I actually have to practice and really process what the individual is saying or feeling. I am r...

I think I’ve written too much so I think this will be my last post for this thread. Do you misunderstand because the manner the professor teaches the class or because of what is not being said? I think I have noticed a pattern for myself anyway. If the professor is very specific in giving instructio...

It is really hard when the GPA is dropping. I try to remember that my grades don't always reflect my intelligence. I don't mean to minimize the frustration though. It's super annoying. I think for me the depression comes from my inability to control the situation. It's like a feeling of being trapped.
