I would reccoment looking into the thinkpad series. They're a little pricy, but they're made for heavy use, and they're pretty good on gadgetry too.

most often my dress consists of a heavy metal band tee (most likely from a concert), a costumized vest i'm very proud of, a pair of jeans and my combat boots from a military surplus :D

other times i dress in my pirate outfit. large boots, tricorne hat and my beloved brocade jacket

Can you tell us in more detail what you've tried and what it did? It does sound like a graphics driver problem, but i simply don't get enough info to help you. What graphics card are you using?

Well, you could go for one of the newer thinkpads. Like the T500 or R500 laptops. Both have widescreen 15.4 inch displays, and the wellknown thinkpad quality to the. I myself own an R400, wich is the 14-1 inch version

Jeans, Military surplus boots, Heavy metal band tee's, sometimes my patched black denim vest, sometimes a longcoat (1700's style) and a headrag witha tricorne on it. I'm gonna purchase some pirate style boots when i get the cash too, but they're handmade and expensive. Anyone wanna buy a kidney? :P

Heroes of Might and Magic has always had good music in my opinion. Really creates the atmosphere of an epic fantasy world. i use an Atrch Linux system, but i use the nonfree Nvdia drivers and adobe's Flash plugin for firefox. Other than that i'm free as in freedom

You could also raise the sound independadntly from the desktop by opening a terminal and typing "alsamixer". should open the sound mixer
