The masses almost never create authoritarianism. Authoritarianism is almost always forced upon the masses by those who want to hold onto the means of production. That's circular reasoning. You're defining what "control by the masses" means (and even just the idea of "masses" its...

Are you implying that the masses would create a totalitarian society? They would and they have and they will. The human species is the greatest species to ever exist. We went to the moon. We invented everything. Did we need to? Did the total subjective gains outweigh the total subjective and object...

I believe that the problems with the world come from a lack of democracy. I really think that if you put people in charge of matters that don't concern their immediate life and surroundings, they're bound to screw up badly, regardless if they even want to do right. It defeats the purpose of special...

I was in a sh***y situation, but I think I also underestimated the effect of a day and a half without my usual meds.

But aren't they the the most discriminated against group by the left? Taking this simple idea that you just stated, I think I can rephrase my original question: Why has divergence of opinions and perspectives practically become a cultural crime? Why do people today feel threatened by the simple fac...

It's very hard to feel prosperous, and not want to "just relax" (i.e., be complacent). Is it not possible though for society to have structures (formal or informal) in place to prevent individual complacency from becoming systemic? This is what I'm wondering. Crises happen, it's inevitabl...

I have a thought on this subject: "Is a widespread adoption of forms of victimhood a natural consequence of generalized complacency? And is generalized complacency, in turn, a natural consequence of prosperity?" On a large-society scale, is prosperity possible without complacency as a cons...

Does anyone else feel like you practically cease to exist when you're forced to deal with nonsense and BS that you can't be honest about? Right now I'm thinking mostly work (I never even interact with any work contacts other than through text, but it still bothers me immensely). Sometimes it's famil...

I can't think of a single first-hand instance of awkward silence. I don't know if my memory fails me or if I really don't know what it's like. I'm pretty good at disappearing. When disappearing is not an option, I talk a lot by default. Or sometimes I just look out the window. What's more awkward to...

That's another aspect (not on topic, but still interesting): politics has turned from a national endeavor to an international endeavor. Very much on-topic, actually. It's one of the main reasons why I'm even asking about it here. American politics are a very odd beast, and I think most everyone mos...

As I said earlier I'm using minorities in a political sense (parties not in power are a minority those in power are the majority), not a demographic sense. In that sense, yes those in power will be paranoid about those attempting to gain it, and those out of power will be defensive to avoid losing ...

I listen to everyone. I just don't necessarily give much credence to what they say :).

Outside groups have always been around and they've always hated the majority dictating terms, over the last 20 years the internet has given those groups a voice and a tool to mobilize. Are all the "victims" combined still the minority though? Is the use of victimhood even limited to the (...

Are there any? All the most prominent or fast-growing cultural and political identities/affiliations today seem to be defined by what their members/proponents believe they are a victim of, and not so much by concrete things that they actually have an affinity for, believe in, or advocate for. Is thi...
