I refuse to call my autism a disability. I have a masters degree for goodness sakes. I have trouble with social situations, but IQ wise I'm normal. I refuse to call it a disability it is who I am!

Loud noises have actually physically made me sick before. I remember as a kid hearing that we were going to have a fire drill and I got so nervous that I threw up! I really Hate loud noises!

A breakthrough with a student. He is lower functioning on the spectrum, but I was able to use some of my own experiences frim my autism to calm him down and get him ready for lunch.

Better communication skills. When I was a kid they just thought I was shy. They should have known better, they might have got me to say one or two things per day. Oh well, a BA an MA and then diagnosis later on. Still have trouble communicating though. Especially non verbals.

I hate them! But I do know that the sensory sensitivity can go Both ways. I had a student a few years ago on the spectrum and she LOVED loud noises. She would get as close as she could to the speakers in gym class when the teacher was playing loud music. She loved it!
