This is a very important topic. We all need to be activists on some level. Too often this gets channeled almost exclusively into a form of self advocacy focused on advocating for services. Of equal or greater importance is advocacy for accommodations from the NT social structure that will allow AS p...

The issue I see as most important is that the self being advocated for in self advocacy is most often defined as a "consumer of services". This definition is part of who spectrum people can be, but there is a lot more. We are not just consumers of services. We experience the world in uniqu...

The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 is a US labor law that protect people with disabilities against discriminatory practices by others. This law addresses things like if you must use a wheel chair, you are not expected to go to court, to a job or to a store with steps that prevent you from e...

What I do is live like you would drive while on empty. I keep a close eye on my "gas gauge". If I have the energy for something, I commit to it and constantly measure how much reserve I have while I am doing it. If I get close to my energy bottoming out, I leave enough "in my tank&quo...

A job is a relatively new idea. Before the Industrial Revolution there were no jobs as we know them. If something was manufactured before then it was done on a piece work basis. For example if someone had a clothing business they would buy cloth and take it to someone who would cut it into the corre...

I am new here and forming my analysis of the forums. In a way that can be good because I bring "fresh eyes" for the time being. From this vantage point my response is that this forum is like any forum in terms of initiative. NT or AS, on some levels people are people regardless of brain wi...

Never let anyone tell you how you should feel about any given situation. Don't "think" your feelings. Just "feel" them. Don't stand there and say, "Well I shouldn't be angry." If you're angry, be angry. Give yourself the freedom to feel this way. The more NT's try to m...

Thank you for telling your story. Thank you for your service. Military structure has many benefits. Not everyone can access those benefits as you have but for those who do it can be life changing. Probably the most famous example of a AS person in the military is George Patton. He could see patterns...

To me, neurotypical means that the neurons in the brain are functioning normally, like they typically should. I agree with this until I get to the word "should". Ok, maybe I should've explained that differently. Sorry. I don't really know how else to describe what my definition of neuroty...
