I was wondering what people's experiences here with meds for anxiety/depression are? I used venlafaxine for 10 years and that worked pretty well. Quit, did ok for a while, relapsed seven months ago and still looking for the right meds. Venlafaxine, sertraline and paxil have all failed so far. Hoping...

No I can't and it's a problem. I eat at work so that makes it easier but the food there is often not healthy. I'm planning on taking a cooking course in a few months. At the moment I make the same thing almost every week: rice with chicken. And I just don't really like it, so taking a course is no g...

I can relate to most of your reasons, 4 and 9 in particular. I'm constantly trying to figure out what kind of people I can connect with, but it's something that rarely happens. The desire to have social contact is a nightmare when those same social contacts can make you feel bad for being different....

Interesting but it's like many medical treatments they're researching for autism: they look promising but are nowhere near the stage of being implemented on a mass scale. I've yet to find something that helps me become more social.

I'll try to find a quiet place as quickly as possible in order to calm down. I won't initiate any conversation when overload happens, I just want to be left alone for a while then. Prolonged exposure with an inability to escape can make me aggressive, I can feel the urge to punch people even though ...

I've recently moved to a new apartment because the noise made by my neighbours bothered me a huge deal. I had several meltdowns over it, I was pretty much going crazy because I couldn't enjoy some peace and quiet after work. The new apartment doesn't have as thin walls as the previous, so there's so...

That we understand everything literally and that we don't get metaphors. This may be the case for some of us. I myself find that I usually realize a little too late that something wasn't meant literally, but inexperienced counselors often have a simplistic view of the literal thinking issues.

I'm a very mentally sick woman and I get fed up with people telling me I should make new friends. I'm not meant to make new friends because of my mental illness. Besides the current friends I have, no one else is interested in being my friend. I think the difficult thing is that you have to make an...

What does being a friend on that forum involve? Can you only send pm's if you're friends or something like that?

Anyway, it seems harmless to me. If he/she requested the friendship, I'd say it's up to him/her to send you a message.

Anyone else have this problem? Besides having a devastating social anxiety, I simply don't know what to say most of the time. It happens quite often that I'm standing in a group of people but hardly contribute to the conversation. I can have informative conversations when people ask me questions or ...

I drink Matcha green tea and it has a calming effect on me. Interesting. I've been considering buying L-theanine (a constituent of green tea) because I've read that it has a calming effect. I'm looking for something that would make me more social as well though. What's your experience regarding that?

I did for almost a year, with a brief period during which I was discharged but that did not go well. Didn't do much good for me. I had ups and downs and they tried all kinds of medication on me until they found one that stabilized me. Never made much progress in therapy though. I stayed in a ward wi...

I do get angry if the noise is repetitive and annoying, particularly if it's due to inconsiderate neighbors. I feel you. I'm about to move because the apartment I currently live in has rather thin walls and I can hear the neighbours having conversations. I can deal with noise during the day but I n...

I quit using antidepressants (venlafaxine) over a month ago after having been on them for 10 years. Aside from wanting to get rid of some nasty side effects, I was hoping quitting would also decrease my apathy. I started taking weekly supplements of vitamin D at the same time because I read a study ...

You sound a lot like me. I often find it very hard to keep conversations going, even with people I know. Once I've gone through the standard questions I can ask ("How are you", "What have you been up to recently?"), an awkward silence usually occurs. I've been trying to lengthen ...

Risperdal and Abilify are atypical antipsychotics that have been studied and used to good effect in autistic people. Things they help with are irritability, mood stability, racing thoughts, and overall anxiety because they can also reduce the sense of overstimulation. They are the only two meds tha...
