Interesting site, but they REALLY gotta stop using 0/O and 1/I as confirmation codes in the text-recognition block.

Waiting until your son asks about AS to explain it would be wrong. For one thing, it may never occur to him to ask, and for another he may think that since you don't want to talk about it he shouldn't talk about it either. The last thing you need to do is make him feel shame. (The same goes for sex ...

The rankings of various substances related to the harm they do may cause some suprise.... Yes, and everyone knows that you're more likely to die in an auto accident on the way to the airport than get blown up by a terrorist or hijacked, but the government hasn't made driving illegal and doesn't see...

I wear what *I* want to wear (unless my boss tells me not to). It's pretty much that simple. When someone sees me wearing the current fad clothing it's not an attempt to "fit in" but simply a result of me looking at the clothing and thinking "I like that". Once the fad has passed I get a few stares ...

When I read the post, I immediately thought of "fag hags", the straight women who want to spend all their time socializing with gay men instead of finding a straight partner. They're an accepted fact of life in the queer community, and nobody really gets offended by their behavior. Most people simpl...

Ultimately, does it matter whether or not AS/HFA/LFA are all variations of the same disorder? As the saying goes, "if you've met one aspie then you've met ONE aspie." The same can be said for people who have an autism diagnosis. We're all unique and will all have different needs and experiences. My ...

For me, it seems like there is a pipe between my brain and my mouth. Ted Stevens? Is that you? :-) I feel much the same. There is a lot of activity inside my head formulating things to say, but it's like the neural tube that carries that information to my mouth can't keep up, clogs completely, or d...

I care about the file size. Particularly since Alex uploaded a 2.5 MEGABYTE animated gif image in contravention of the 6 kilobyte limit. Even on cable it took a long time to download. I'd hate to be trying to access this site on a dialup line. It may be his site, but when you blow the size limit by ...

The human eye doesn't focus as clearly on the blue-violet end of the light spectrum as it does on the red-yellow end. Even people who are not colour blind have a certain amount of trouble reading blue neon or blue LED signs. My father is colour-blind but I'm not. My eyes are not equal, though - I se...

I'm old enough to have made it through school without a Dx because AS wasn't added to the DSM until after I graduated. The school people did try to figure me out quite a few times. I heard about other people being diagnosed with AS several times over the years but I tend not to pay too much attentio...

I don't usually obsess over words, but every now and then I'll get one stuck in my head (just like a song you can't stop singing to yourself) and will repeat the word over and over until it doesn't even seem like a real word any more. It doesn't bother my typing at all.

When I tried the link I was redirected to a domain seller. In any case, these days most people who are able/willing to surf the net on a handheld device are more likely to be using a Treo or iPAQ with GSM access and Microsoft PocketExplorer than a cellphone. WAP was obsolete before it was even estab...

My facial recognition is excellent. I rarely forget a face I've seen more than once. But my memory for names is very sh***y. I'll always recognize the person, remember where I met them from, what they do, other details about them, but I can't remember their name. In my case, I also almost never for...

Actually, I like wearing lycra sometimes. The constant pressure against my skin increases my awareness of where my arms and legs are at. Otherwise I sometimes feel like I'm just a pair of eyeballs suspended in space.

I'm a childless aspie adult. I often feel like I'm still a teen. No, seriously. My "peers" at work are just so grown-up about everything. I don't have a whole lot of friends, but the ones I do have are all 10-20 years younger than me (I'm 41). I'd love to go back and start over...
