In my opinion, this is a defenitely an autism thing, but you have to keep in mind the spectrum nature of autism meaning other autistics may not experience this. I have different "modes" of interpreting the world- the one I usually stay in anymore makes it easy for me to process language be... |

Sooo... as a kid, my sensory issues were kind of put to the wayside and I hid them quite a bit... but being strongly discomforted by certain stimuli is a real thing I'm realizing and I would like to address some things that still bug me... I have a bunch of sensory issues, and below I include a few ... |

This site and others certainly do well with meeting autistic people online, but how can I find autistic people in my area to connect with in person? Is there like some sort of autism dating site? (Not that I'm asking specifically for dating, but this is sort of what I am looking for.) Thanks! |

Gossip makes me so flipping mad, but I used to take it to far and never talk about anyone. I've learned that unfortunately it is somewhat necessary to talk about people to get it off your chest but I always prefer talking TO the person rather than ABOUT them. |

I'm not going to comment whether or not autism is increasing or decreasing or the rate at which it is going, but regardless, speaking theoretically, I don't believe it could actually ever become 1 in 1 because that would imply the rate is not a curve. (Look up asymptotes.) |

First off, a little about myself. I spent several months diagnosing myself. I therefore know very much about autism symptoms but basically nothing about the insides of special education except what I am learning in my major since I am going to college to become a special ed. teacher. (Not that I lik... |

...but like how other people said, I do think so differently than other people that I do need to mold my thoughts to simulate theirs; otherwise it's hard to interact with the dominant cognitive species. |

I have various replies to this depending on what mood I'm trying to create. It can range anything from "It's my superpower." to "Not my fault you don't really have a brain." My cognitive differences have been commented on to such an extent that I plan to go to grad. school for co... |

Can you answer the question of what kind of events better organizations hold? I have been against people I know participating in events with Autism Speaks but they are not going to simply stop their efforts unless they know there are better alternatives. |

What is everyone's opinion of Autism Speaks? I know that they give a negative image of autism. I also know they do not distribute their money well (yes, that's an understatement.): https://autisticadvocacy.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/AutismSpeaksFlyer_color_2017.pdf On the flip side, I don't know... |

I was hoping you could be specific what efforts they made that you think were unnecessary, but if you feel that they actually didn't help you very much or at all, I'm sorry to hear that. I'm assuming then, that there's things you still struggle with that they either couldn't help with or didn't? |

@Kiprobalhato Can you elaborate what you mean by that? What did they do that you feel wasn't worth their effort? |
