My friend has a 26 year old son with severe autism who doesn't talk much, he makes noises and flaps etc. At home in the Midlands, he and his son get funny looks and comments. But they're on holiday on the South Coast now. He said that he hasn't got a single funny look or comment and they've travell...

It's OK to be different, but you will get treated differently for being different. Many autistics hate being treated differently. WP is a good example of how many autistics dislike it. Autism just isn't an "identity". I get almost religious cult like vibes looking at how aggressively some...

CBD oil is hardly a cure for autism so many people are getting carried away here. As far as treatment is concerned I’m rather skeptical CBD is over hyped in general maybe they think it helps with anxiety but my personal experience cannabis makes me more anxious not less. I believe there should be a ...

The original child psychiatrists that officially discovered autism in the 1940’s didn’t have a clue what it was or what caused it. It’s no different from a scientist observing an advanced alien spaceship and making assumptions about how it works. All they can do is what any scientist can do when the...

Well if Russia starts invading other countries it might turn into WW3. However, in WWII, the only way to get Japan to surrender was to invent the atomic bomb. But since Russia has plenty of those, will NATO have to invent a more more effective new weapon of mass destruction that would be equivalent...

It’s sad and I’ve tried to research some of these cases. It appears in many cases they are living at home then something happens usually a meltdown of some type. The autistic person is perceived to have done something dangerous to themselves or others and can no longer be cared for by parents. It’s ...

I feel like the percentage of people with autism with "intellectual disability" is much less than even 30%. This wasn't true 30-40 years ago, though. The criteria for an autism diagnosis has broadened so much----that many people who don't have ID have had an autism diagnosis since the beg...

The significance of the research is the linking of ID and Autism. Since 30-45% of autistic people have ID there is an undeniable obvious link. They are basically saying one follows the other in a linked relationship of severity of symptoms, which is not the same as the coincidence comorbidity explan...

Its only banning the official use of the word by local government office. If gov really cared for the ID they would fund more research to help treat these issues, not engage in pointless PC gestures. In 2012 there were 81 treatable ID`s, in 2021 that rose to 116. So research does seem to work they j...

Does this regard just LFAs, or does it implicate high functioning aspies too? Because if its the latter, I'm going to pretend I never saw this. LFA is just a casual term for ASD with ID. The study suggests those with ASD 3 will have on average lower intelligence than those with ASD 2. ASD 1 or Aspe...

Yes, we need to reintroduce the old categories, like 'Asperger's Syndrome'. I don't like being called "autistic" at all; I'm not my condition, I'm not mentally handicapped, but the word "autism" has all of those very negative connotations attached to it. Aspergers was too broad ...

Although always suspected latest research shows there is a definite link between the severity of core ASD symptoms and cognitive abilities including intelligence. I suspect this will be in the long-term problematic for Neurodiversity advocates searching in vain for a “pure benevolent autism” or atte...

Shocking BBC footage showing neglect of autistic & other mentally disabled in Ukraine. Reminds me of Romanian orphanage in 90`s.

I dont probably because i`m not offended by the idea of a cure for autism and see it as a disorder anyway.

This is largely the reasons why some autistic people hate AS. They want to claim autism ( the whole spectrum of severity & not a single condition anyway ) all to themselves.

About 1 in 3 autistic people have associated intellectual disability which can seriously effect the ability to live independently. Even with no ID having executive functioning problems can also prevent independent living Life is so much more complex now than say 100 years ago. 100 years ago an autis...
