My mother was also (and sometimes still is) harsh and controlling. As a child, I kept quiet and did my very best to avoid conflict until I could get out of that environment which I did at age 17. Now, I don't tolerate inapproprate attempts to control me. She sent me a very nasty email a few days ago...

I ran away once when I was a kid because my mother dragged me out of bed at 6:00AM one morning demanding that I do the laundry. She was slamming my head hard against the wall where there was a nail. She didn't even see that the back of my head was bleeding. She went back to bed. I grabbed a bag and...

I guess if I could only pick ONE thing that bothers me the most about myself, it would have to be feeling disconnected from everything all the time. It's almost like I'm stuck between or behind some invisible layers of an energy force that kind of mottles or veils the life before me, so I never qui...

Well, I kinda made an obsession out of online selling. I can allow myself to buy stuff that interests me as long as I can sell some or all of it for a good profit. I suppose that both my buying and selling could be considered 'obsessions', but I found a way to make that financially beneficial and th...

Yep. I tend to worry about details that don't really matter. It may come from life being difficult enough already that I try to be very careful to avoid making any mistakes that might cause more difficulty. If that makes any sense.

I'm feeling irratated by my mom's wanting to label everyone with Asperger's as "dysfuntional". I am not dysfunctional. I have strengths and I have weaknesses that seem unusual to most people. That doesn't make me dysfunctional in my mind. I am also irritated that she thinks that I need counseling fo...

Hang in there, Tim! I will keep you in my prayers. Go easy on yourself and give yourself permission to not 'have it all together' all the time. Stress does make AS symptoms worse, so try to find some small ways to lighten your load a bit.

I told my mom. She didn't know what AS was before, but it only took a few minutes for her to start understanding it and totally see that I have it. I haven't told my dad yet. Not intentionally avoiding it, just haven't really had time. Husband is still in semi-denial.

Hmmm. I wonder if it would work to have a commune on a house boat. That might be a really stupid idea. I'm just putting it out there anyway. It might be a little expensive, but the mobility would make it fun. Actually, scratch that. A boat would be awesome, potentially even legendary. Might even cr...

I feel distracted by this contant feeling of disconnectedness or detachment from what is going on around me. It's a very frustrating feeling as though I just can't seem to find any way to get my brain to 'plug in', and I've had this feeling for as long as I can remember. It's always there, but is wo...
