You absolutely can have as many male friends as you want in a relationship, as long as you don't engage in romantic or sexual activity with them, which I assume you don't. If your man is trying to control who you can be friends with, that's abusive and you need to either tell him it's not okay or le... |

I could see if both ways - the higher IQ would mean another layer of "masking" to interact with an average IQ NT person, but perhaps the high IQ means more brain power to work with when masking and making all those quick social decisions. Like having a faster processor in your computer so... |

I have an IQ in the 99th percentile and I am good at masking. Also the other high IQ aspies I've met, especially women, are excellent at seeming neurotypical, to the level that some of them actually seem very socially intelligent. Highly intelligent men are less good at masking I've noticed, but the... |

Other people have already said this, but you are talking about a deep, academic study of psychology. You might also find it helpful to study one of my main interest areas, symbolic interactionism, which is a “dead” or little used area of sociology. It’s basically the study of face to face communica... |

I think all of the replies have made interesting points. I agree with Fnord's points and also littlebee, although I'd like to see more evidence for the serotonin/autism link. I find it interesting because have been on SSRI's in the past and still am to some degree and it has not improved many sympto... |

I don't really care if people exclude me on forums. I don't know them in real life and they have a right to respond or not. I care a lot more if I'm excluded in real life, which happens pretty often. I either break down completely and get upset with myself and think I'm a failure, or I just get more... |

I used to be almost asocial, but recently I have upped my passing for neurotypical game, and now I'm actually quite social, at least I seem that way. I have also managed to highly increase my empathy (emotional and cognitive) with practice. |

I was homeschooled for elementary school. It helped me to learn better I think because I could do whatever I wanted learning-wise. I wasn't lazy; I studied my special interest at the time in great detail. I did lag behind in some other subjects though, but ultimately it was a positive experience for... |

There is so much information online and in psychology about how autistic people think, because they are the minority, so they are studied more. I find that I am very good at relating to and analyzing fellow autistic people, and they make up most of my close friends. However, I get very very confused... |

I am dating another autistic person right now but he is not very physically affectionate at all and it tends to frustrate me. We do love each other and he expresses his love in other ways but I still find this annoying and am confused as to what to do. I don’t want to leave him because I do love him... |

Plenty of reasons: to fit in better, to gain any respect in life, to appear to have more social skills, to make friends and actually be able to connect with people. I'm not saying masking is necessarily a good thing, but it can certainly make life easier and there are many reasons that autistic peop... |
