I have similar right now. It is actually pretty scary to have to ask my professors very basic definitions/concepts, which I was confident in before... :? But it may just be anxiety, because I notice my accent/understanding gets worse, when nervous around people. Also, it may be depression/burnout, b...

Update: I tried out that program, and it did solve for x when I entered the quartic equation, but then, when I copied 1 of the x's into another equation I wanted to solve, then it said there was an error... Maybe, my 2nd equation was too big? Also, couldn't quite get how to use the simplify option. ...

Hi all, So, in my recent maths research, I got a big quartic equation. I know there is a quartic formula to solve it, but my coefficients are so big, that I would much rather trust a computer program that would, somehow, substitute them into the general formula, and rearrange them to a simpler form,...

Interesting answers, everyone! As a side note: does anyone know of any program, which can calculate roots of any polynomial, even without concrete coefficients (e.g. a*x^6+(a-b)*x^5+x+61==0)? I've so far tried wolfram alpha, but it said I've exceeded its maximum number of characters... Happy upcomin...

I'm trying to find a general relationship between x and a, b, c, such that x is an integer, and q(x) is t^2 for some integer(s) t. So t and x are NOT known ahead of time. But a, b, c ARE known. Take, for example, the quadratic 36*x^2 + 64*x + 27. What would x have to be so that it equals t^2 for som...

So this problem is keeping me up many nights: say, we have a quadratic, q(x)=a*x^2 + b*x + c, and we need to find such integer x, so that q(x)=t^2, for some integer t. Does anyone here know how to do that? I first assumed that we can find x just by factoring q(x) into perfect squares, but then some ...

Hello, Does anyone else here get big, day-lasting headaches? How do you deal with them? Mine now are dull pains at the back of the head near the pons and medulla, accompanied by weakness, and the need to sleep or lie down. My most recent headache lasted from about 9 am (morning) to 2 am (the next da...

Could it be possible that your attracted to your opposite because you dislike some qualities in yourself :? I'm attracted to women who are a lot like me in some ways because they are more relatable to me & might be more accepting & understanding. But I'm also attracted to women who seem opp...

Is he attracted to you? Well he was when we saw each other in real life, but then we had to move away to different countries... All these years I can't forget him, but he - idk. Part of me is scared that the internet messed up his view on me, because 1. my mom often posts ugly pictures of me and th...

Seriously. It doesn't even make any sense! Like, 1. He's very smart and motivated, while I'm more of a daydreamer, and satisfied with just getting by in life (as long as I have time for my special interests) 2. He's very cultured/charismatic and good at reading people, while I'm more so aloof, messy...

[...] Also, Fnord, you mentioned how women who dump you sometimes still make contact with you.  Well, having done that myself, I think that's just them wanting to stay as good friends.  Like, wouldn't it be doubly bad, if you lost not only the love of your life, but also your friend? You are implyi...
