I've never gone to a support group meeting or anything like that. I am high functioning enough to pass for NT and a lot of those events seem to be for those who cannot work, still live with their parents, and have problems much worse than mine. This is one of the reasons why the autistic community ...

There's an art to making friends in groups: 1) Only attend groups that are interesting to you in their own right, apart from the potential of making friends there. The group should revolve around a topic you want to learn about, or an activity that is fun for you, or a common goal that you believe i...

In general, I find a lot of groups to be very cliquish, say hobby groups online. It seems like it's always 4-5 people that run the show and if they don't like you, you get railroaded out. Which is why I am always hesitant to join any group in person or online. Groups naturally tend to be cliquish, ...

I'm not that good at making friends, which is why I value social acceptance and being liked in the workplace, as it's a place you have to go to every day. Good luck with making friends in the workplace, if that works for you. I agree that making friends in the workplace can be very rewarding -- but...

I feel more guilty about not doing much to try to change the economic system so that the rich-poor divide is less, but there's not even a big enough political party to vote for that has the will to try and fix that, and political parties are package deals that usually have a lot of policies I don't...

[*]I bottle up my anger more than most of the people I know. Never let it out. I have never once believed anyone has wanted me to be honest with them when I am angry with them. Everyone insists otherwise, and I feel lied to every single time. Why? Why would I believe any of you? I observe people. I...

[*]I have not been direct or emotionally honest since I was a child. I lie to others about how I am feeling. I pretend to be happier than I am. I play along in all social and family gatherings until I am allowed to be alone. This causes me to feel NOTHING towards everyone around me, which leads to ...

Society, my peers, and my family have all conditioned me to expect rejection for who I am. I am autistic and queer and trans and politically radical. Have you made a point of seeking out spaces where you could find people who shared as much of the above as possible? For example, have you ever gone ...

Regarding the isolated tribal cultures, many confuse them as being matriarchal while they are in fact just matrilineal; but their warriors are still mostly male (ie the Moari). Although not fully "matriarchal," at least some of these societies have been more than "just matrilineal.&q...

ToughDiamond said it very well. The way I might phrase it - we're a Darwinian species, anything that matters at a deep level to physical bodies - like death and sex - is existential in it's level of importance, also zero-sum, and because of that the rules of civility tend to go out the window rathe...

Well, I was using the term loosely, which is probably the only way it can be used. I mean the kind of chap who out of principle would be loathe to nobble the competition, seek undeserved brownie points by hiding his shortcomings and exaggerating his strengths, or use other dirty tricks to improve h...

perhaps a positive point to try and tie up this thought: we in ND land are, less affected by the described atomization, because we have different social value and interaction systems. As such as a purely anecdotal example, the local ASD-support centers where i go to meetings have seen an increase i...

Allow me to introduce you to the Rough Wooing . Henry declared war to force the Scottish Parliament to agree to the planned marriage between Edward, who was six years old at the start of the war, and the infant queen, thereby creating a new alliance between Scotland and England. This was a forced a...

IMO this serves the interests of Russia and China, not the U.S.A.

Yikes! I'm very sorry to hear this.

Is there any chance these Syrians could compromise and take only Hezbollah-land, leaving northern Lebanon alone?
