Do you find that you are "more autistic" when your overall mental health is worse? Do you find that manifestations of autism such as sensory sensitivity, social difficulties, and meltdowns or shutdowns become stronger? I think this is true for me, to the point that I'm sometimes unsure whe...

All buildings would have excellent sound insulation as standard. Possibly recording studio grade. I would like this. I have a lot of trouble with traffic noise from the street outside my apartment. I should add that there would be widely available and easily accessible public transportation "o...

Sensory aids (like earplugs, sunglasses, etc.) would be a "normal" thing to use.

I like this one. I was feeling self-conscious wearing my sunglasses in the grocery store earlier this week.

I don't think that's true. A lot of women are effectively required to for their jobs. Without it they are not considered to look "professional."

No gender roles. Probably not an autism thing but that's very important to me.

I'm not sure it isn't an autism thing. I've read that autistic people are more likely to be gender variant. And gender has a lot to do with social communication, which doesn't come naturally to autistic people.

How would things be done differently on your planet (or on this planet, if you ran it)? There are two things I often fantasize about: 1) Rest rooms: Public venues would have rest rooms that were actually for resting. They would be small soundproofed rooms with lights that could be dimmed and a soft ...

I experience something that I call "sudden inability to cope". As the name suggests, it often comes on suddenly. Everything becomes too bright and too loud. I have difficulty talking, struggle to make any kind of decision, and feel disoriented. Does this phenomenon have an accepted name?

I've never had a full-time job, so I don't have any advice. I hope you find a way through this, though.

Everyone is different, but not every one of a person's sensitivities will be unique. If enough people share their difficulties and how they deal with them, many readers will find one or two things that are applicable.

I wear only collared shirts, mostly polos. Collared shirts don't irritate my neck the way t-shirts do, and polo shirts are knit, so they are soft and stretchy. I also tend to buy everything fairly roomy, as tight clothing bothers me. I feel kind of weird promoting a particular product, but I've foun...

How do you manage sensory issues caused by your clothing? Are there particular types of clothing that you have found work better for you? I've been thinking about this tonight, as I am buying a few new clothes for winter.

On Tuesday, I saw my psychiatrist. I had corresponded with him a few weeks earlier saying I wanted to be evaluated for autism and asking if he could recommend somewhere I could get testing. He said we could talk about it when I next came in, and asked if I could bring a family member, because that w...

It's possible to be both aromantic and asexual, of course. Some people are just one or the other, and some are both.
