Stagecoaches were supposed to be luxurious----but they were actually quite uncomfortable---especially if the horses bucked or whatever. ...

I've always loved the sound of a distant train. Fortunately, every place I've lived was within several miles of tracks, so I'd be treated to the occasional whistle or tooting in the distance. Currently there are tracks six miles from my new house. When I first moved here I thought there were no tra...

I believe the TV programme was brought out because when the EU changed the laws regarding what one may find where it would in the past only involve the state if the item was of significent historic value, but when the EU changed the rules where anything of value found became owned by the state rathe...

In Britain, companies used to help each other. Things didn't chann. ge until the 1970's came in when they started to see each other as compet :nerdy: tion and greed set in. Prior to this, if a company needed help, other companies would volunteer help as theyknew if they were in need, others would he...

When it came to locos and items of rolling stock, roller bearings have been a bit of a mixed blessing. The issue with roller bearings is that when they expire, they can go without warning and the vehicles wheels can literally come off causing a potentially major accident, so roller bearings, despite...

Never forget a co-workers mother had a Mk1 Mini-Metro, and she kept denting the rear metal bumper as she would hit the bollards at the supermarket carparks when reversing. He was thinking I may want to buy the car so I took it for a quick test drive, and that car had such good driver visibility look...

There were American steam locomotives of the thirties that also had that art deco streamlining. Some had it stripped away later, or came in both versions (sheathed in the streamlining, or unsheathed). My question is this: was that streamlining just for looks? Or did it actually help the locomotive'...
