If your body feels like sleeping then it is a good idea to sleep. Itncould be physical where the body needs rest, or it could be emotional or mental where one needs a rest. This is what I can think of at this time, though some medications, or deprsssion or allergies or even a passing virus can cause...

There was a Swede, I think, who was charged for riding on the frame under a passenger car. Then, a week later, he got another bill, as the conductor had remembered that he'd been riding a first-class car. If you want to hop a freight, the Cadillac is the Jumbo Bulk Loader - a hopper car with bulgin...

Atleast she didnt suffer Charlie's fate! https://youtu.be/Dh994JcEfkI https://youtu.be/Dh994JcEfkI It's generally done by ticket in the UK, rather than paying on the train. Apparently the fines for being on a train without a ticket are rather steep: https://www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-a...

I am kind of in a similar predicament but from a different angle, but all roads eventually led me to autism, so I joined this site a month or two after I was placed on a list to be assessed.
When I am assessed, I will be able to know where I stand.

For further reading on the history and development of technology, I highly recommend the books of J.E. Gordon. He is a superb writer, and was very involved in the research.

Thanks. If I come across one I will take a look.

We assume certain technologies arrived atcertain dates, and while in general it maybe correct and true, there are often these exceptions found which later which prove us wrong! The mix gets extreme on the frontiers, where someone may be living with mostly stone-age technology, but also hires an air...

Regarding forms of bicycle, one can go right back to the 1700's and before, though these were wheeled wooden machines that one sat on and scooted with ones feet. These were considered to be superior in their day as a way to travel that was more efficient than walking and used less energy than runnin...

Well didnt they go through a phase of making railroad tracks out of wood? With only an iron strip across the top where the wheels hit? Sherman's army marching through Georgia would tear up the railroads, and stick the strips into fire, bend them, and hang them from trees. The resulting tree decorat...

But the speed of travel was increased considerably by railways. That was gradual. The first steam locomotives had to share the track with horse-drawn wagons. There were people wondering if it was possible to breathe if they got to 30 MPH, (50 kph) despite horses and winds being faster. The standard...

Can you IMAGINE what a boon railways were back in the 1830s? Before this, one could only ride horses, take a stagecoach, or go very slowly down a river in a boat. Stagecoaches were supposed to be luxurious----but they were actually quite uncomfortable---especially if the horses bucked or whatever. ...

I've always loved the sound of a distant train. Fortunately, every place I've lived was within several miles of tracks, so I'd be treated to the occasional whistle or tooting in the distance. Currently there are tracks six miles from my new house. When I first moved here I thought there were no tra...
