I don't exactly feel cursed, there are certainly worse things to have. In fact I find there is an upside, I suspect I get far more intense pleasure from indulging my obsessions than most NT people would get from their hobbies. The story of the mother writing on her notebook 'Why can't my kid be norm...

Welcome. I actually really like Jarvis Cocker and think his work with Pulp was awesome.

History, especially military history, especially the Napoleonic Wars, and by extension, wargaming. I have always been crazy for toy soldiers. Also, buses and trams - a friend and I used to spend Saturday afternoons at the Pier Head in Liverpool when we were kids just watching all those lovely old At...

You don't have to apologise for posting a depressed post here, we are all here to support each other. I am a bit curious about your medication. As someone who has suffered depression for most of my life I have been on numerous anti-depressants, the most recent of which was Sertraline. I hated the si...

How lovely! Yes, they can get used to each other and even become good friends in some cases. Love the cats' names! Are West Highland terriers similar to Yorkies? Similar size and nature I think. To be honest although we love our little Bella we wish we had just got a mutt instead, she is costing us...

Welcome to WrongPlanet, you have done well to come through all your challenges and you should be proud of yourself I think. My missus and I love cats, currently we have two ginger toms called Milo and Marmalade. They were the last two of a litter, we went and bought Milo and then after getting home ...

Well, it's ten years later, I got my assessment & the difference it makes is that 50 years of failing socially has become 50 years of doing quite well in the circumstances. I like that way of looking at it. I am 55 and without a formal diagnosis, just some very striking characteristics and high...

Welcome to the website, I am sorry to hear that you're in a bit of a low place and I hope you get all the support you need here. I am quite a newbie myself, only joined a month or so ago but most people on here seem friendly and I don't think anyone will judge you or be unkind. We all seem to have o...

But anyway, do you feel possessive of your special interests? Like your the only person who can talk about them or have anything to do with them? Not me. I've always sought out people who shared my interests, special or otherwise. Same. I would love it if everyone was fascinated by The Napoleonic W...

Liverpool Dave. The great thing is that there are people in here that understand you, or can relate to you. I have not been assessed yet but I am either on the spectrum or have traits of it.... But for most of my life I have felt alone as far as people are concerned. It is like only my Mum can begi...

This knowledge has given me a context to understand myself within - my ability to rapidly learn complex systems, the embarrassing, shameful, humiliating events that were seared into my memory when I was younger, my inability to keep contact with some of the friends I've made over the years. I under...

I can relate to your situation; none of my family really understand my condition either and I tend to get pretty much marginalised at family events as a result. I have a teenage son with Aspergers and oddly they seem to be ok with him, an autistic child seems to pose no particular challenges but an ...

I once took a train trip through Merseyside--from Manchester. I found it quite interesting, actually.

It's a city with a rich maritime history, and then there's the Beatles! Always makes me sad to go back though, everything has changed so much since I lived there.

Oh my goodness!! We have a LOT in common, Liverpool Dave, from your interest in the Napoleonic Wars to your adoption of a son (Matthew), to your feelings of alienation and obsession with the past / childhood nostalgia. I don't know a lot about the Napoleonic Wars but my special interest people (Cha...

Are you originally from Liverpool?

I am indeed, although I haven't lived up there in well over thirty years and in fact in the last thirty years I have only made two very short trips up there. No family left there now so not a lot to go back for.
