I can relate. Similar experience here also in years past. My ASD BFF has a cleaner that is respectful/careful. My husband wants to get a cleaner for us this year and I'm apprehensive.

I have my suspicions of others. What do I even know of myself? LOL. I can observe to the best of my ability (or ask)... if someone might be overwhelmed by or seeking sensory input, if someone might be overwhelmed by or seeking ambiguity or certainty, likewise interpretations of an idiom or social si...

I don't see that it's been built up much in the industry for ASD adults, but some Occupational Therapists advertise "social skills". In my area general therapists specializes in ASD and communication (and sponsor groups). My ASD BFF and I both enjoyed the book "What to Say Next";...

I do. My sister sees me as the golden child. As children, my giftedness shone brighter than my disabilities. She was in reverse. We both had joy and suffered. My sister sees my successes and scoffs at my suffering. I see her successes and her suffering. Sigh. My daughter (ASD, high grades) will have...

Welcome to WP. I was diagnosed at age 47 ASD, GAD (likely ADHD). Thanks to decades of invalidation and my amazing theatrical skills, I was convinced I was normal. A corporate merger, new director (reading a few yearbook entries and childhood letters) brought down that house of cards. I hope your SIL...

Yep. Ridiculous. A few recent headlines about women, ASD, ADHD and loss of life (as my family has had) - but not what to do about it. My son is highly intelligent, masking his high sensitivity and GAD at school (-I think he is ADHD not ASD-) I am really really worried about him. How and when does fu...

I am the hypersensitive type, so I have a lot of sensory issues (touch, sound, smell, taste, sight, sixth). I run a fairly chemical- and condiment- free household. The only hyposensitive ones I can think of are my general clumsiness and when I am lost in my thoughts and forget to eat, etc. I have be...

My mom thought I was normal. I have an ASD diagnosis. I would do my thing; she would do her thing. Worked out well enough that way (sad sarcasm). She is likely Autistic as well. I believe her mother was (who wanted to talk about electrons more than children and was institutionalized b/c that was not...

Kitty, you posted about getting help for cleaning and was attacked. No, it is not your fault. Sorry, I'm rambling about topics I'm relating by the hair on my chinny chin chin and I got confused with a different post where the OP was in a direct in-person social interaction. My apologies. Is the FB g...

What helped me:
I read autobiographies of folks with ASD (from the library) and was able to relate.
I found in-person and on-line support groups (the latter for U.S. e.g. AANE).

Wishing you find a compass for yourself.

Kitty, technically one is at fault in an accident (my example) or has a part in any interaction or dynamic (your example). It's for us to see what degree we contributed to the situation --- it's shades of gray (not black and white). I was discriminated against at work based on gender. It cost me sub...

By this very unofficial chart, my mother rates SPD 50% and ASD 50%. But I figure she has ASD like me (I rate SPD 0%, ASD 75%). She has hypersensitive sight, hearing, smell, taste (and sixth sense) like I do, but has hyposensitive touch and empathy (possibly suppression from CPTSD). My husband fits S...

Ooooo, my faves are 1, 4 and 7. Honorable mention for 3 and 5. I would so like to use those. I thought of offering some suggestions for a response script but was too shy. Thanks for taking the time. I thought of some that were a bit more moderate, but have forgotten. It would be good to write them d...

Although I am better at lowering my blood pressure after an upset and maybe even at avoiding raised blood pressure, I will only ever ne much better at it when I am six feet under. I hope that is a very, very long time away. Until then no amount of maturity or "adultness" will have me be as...

(1) Too many folks are either scared or unkind. I finished my annual corporate training on discrimination and harassment a couple hours ago. People speaking unkindly behind someone's back for a protected class (like a disability) is harassment punishable under the law. Asides that, it's disrespectfu...
