No. Just because they're younger doesn't mean they're inferior to you. Giving an explanation is just plain respectful. I volunteer with kids a lot, and I have never found a situation where I can't give a good, logical reason why the kid needs to do something. If I can't give such a reason, I have n...

I absolutely love sleeping. I find myself sleeping throughout the night, waking up for a few hours, then going back for a 2-3 hour nap. What I don't like is having repetitive nervous/anxious type dreams. One I have over and over involves me being back in high school, and a test is given and I have p...

I like air drying after a shower and sometimes lounging outside naked if conditions are right. But mostly, I have a bunch of comfortable clothes I can wear and for the most part, do.

Thanks so much for your input. My idea about putting subjects up which were not being discussed that day worked very well and I only had to remind him a few times. He understood that we wouldn't go to the vacuum repair store if he couldn't follow the rules and did not seem upset about that. I might ...

At this point, I can tolerate very little of it because it is the same few questions, every day, for sometimes 9-10 hours a day every five minutes or so. I am thinking of putting up some sheets of paper with subjects he isn't allowed to talk to me about written in bold black letters and I will direc...

Thanks all with the replies. I never did the repetitive asking of questions or the verbal stimming that he does, so these are completely new things for me. I have told him before that we are not going to talk about a subject anymore and he seems to understand that. I think I will try to have him rep...

Hi all. I am a 30 year old Aspie lady (no children of my own) who has recently been tapped to take care of a high functioning autistic boy, aged 11. I take care of him 3 days a week, for 8-9 hour shifts. He is home schooled, but visiting his mother right now in my state and is not doing any kind of ...

Nope, this happens to me all the time. The scariest is when someone is speaking directly at me but it still comes to me as gibberish. I know they are saying something, but my brain is not interpreting it right.

I love working with non profits too, but with the job economy the way it is, it isn't so feasible anymore. I am lucky to have a wonderful NT husband who does most of the bread-winning. I also supplement my income by being a personal shopper. I have a client who has agoraphobia and also lives with hi...

I have recently became enamored with anteaters. They are not a new species, but I find them to be so very unusual.

Honestly, it sounds like you really don't want anyone's advice at all. You keep saying negative things towards MountainLaurel about his/her advice, past experiences and how it will never apply to you in a million years. Dude, life is too short to be unhappy. Someone doesn't return your affection? Fi...

I have always had a hard time falling asleep. Now that I am an adult I usually turn to OTC sleep aides, but I do know that cutting out any caffeine before 3 pm, drinking some milk before bedtime and having a soothing shower helps for me to send me off in the right direction.

I think that everyone back then was needed and appreciated as a part of a bigger community. The point was to make things move forward in a positive direction for the community. There would have been several places that a person with AS could fit into and be a part of a community. Also, it has been d...
