When my daughter was diagnosed as classically autistic, we were told it was rare, especially for girls. A few years later, it seemed like autistic and aspy evaluations were handed out like popcorn. Then recently, I'm finding kids who are clearly on the spectrum beiing given a different label and the...

My son has multiple problems coping but through the years, he's learned how to understand his aspy reactions more and more. I'm impressed with how much better he copes and he continues to cope better everyday, especially now at age 21. He's in college and loving it. I am amazed at how far he's come....

I'm trying to bring people together in a community, as well. I first thought that parents would have a good place to come together and create a safe, life affirming place where their kids could thrive and the parents could grow old, happy in the knowlege that there is a place where their kids belong...

Wyoming has the prettiest roadside gravel I've ever seen. Sparkly and more colors than gray.

Definitly let her smoke weed. It's not supposed to cure everything but it synergizes well with most everything. Actually even if she didn't get seizures you should tell her to smoke weed. Oh and siuan, you are wrong in soo many ways it's not even funny. And if you want to stop the war on drugs ppl ...

I agree that you should be considering a second opinion, or a change of doctors. There are anticonvulsants that are generally safe and low on side effects, like lamotrigine (Lamictal). I'd bet that a specialist could figure out something to do the job without messing her up in other ways. This was ...

Marijuana has been recommended by Bernard Rimland as a help for some autistic people. In addition, you don't know my daughter so don't assume that I can't tell the difference between side effects and her autistic behavior. One person? Wow. I have to re-think everything I ever learned in college and...

Triangular_Trees, your story gives me more of a picture, more to think about. I never have an opportunity to talk about seizures and meds to others who have the epilepsy. Thank you very much!! !

Hi Serenity Thanks for your sympathetic comments. An aspy friend who's taken different prescription drugs all his life commented that it would be horrible for him to be like my daughter who isn't very good with language. He said that he had so many bad side effects from meds and had to change them o...

No doubt some people find it relaxing, but some get the opposite problem and experience severe anxiety and paranoia. Everything I said was based in fact, not assumptions. Perhaps it has benefits of some kind, but at what price? Further, are the benefits consistent? People build tolerance to marijua...

It's the people who grab onto a subject and hang onto it like a pitbull until they are satisfied with the outcome who make the new discoveries and change the world. I've had people get annoyed with me for asking too many questions. Ironically that happened too often with autism consultants and speci...

I read that one third of autistic people have seizures after puberty. My daughter is one of them. Her medication stopped most of her seizures but the side effects are making her into a mess. She feels sick, she's dizzy, she trembles, she has bad cramps. It also might suddenly kill her liver. We aske...

In the book, "A Mind Apart," Peter Szatmari talked about a couple who tried every "flavor of the month" treatment for their son's autism and wondered why, at ten, he was not significantly changed. They tried everything except the things that required real work and a real investment of time with the...

My aspy son and my aspy cousin (male) aren't very expressive, other than, in even tones say what they're feeling and thinking. I, on the other hand, talk too much and am overly expressive. We're all well insite the autism spectrum but I think that the reason I'm so talkative is that being around peo...

Maybe doing research and making it look new and on the cutting edge gets grant money so that's why they repackage old stuff.
