After an absence of many months from WrongPlanet I returned mainly to see if my login still worked more than anything, new forum popped up, gave it a try with my original login, that didn't work as the password hadn't transferred so had to request a new one, that's my only real complaint thus far, o...

Pikachu, your signature says that you use RISC OS. Are you an old Acorn fan? I used RISC OS at school many years ago and thought it was a shame when x86 PCs took over that market share,, now however I run it on a Raspberry Pi as I don't have any old Acorn hardware, though right now I'm posting from...

Despite Windows XP being used widely, Microsoft are ending support for it next year. Windows XP end of support date Basically this will force people to upgrade to Windows 7 or Windows 8, or just use competing products that don't bloat the system to hell, it's going to end up with a lot of old Pentiu...

So I don't seem to come across as spammy I figured that this update would not include anything that has NOT changed: Changes: x86/x86_64 Haiku (on Dell Optiplex GX150 Small Form Factor mainy as proof I can do it and also in VirtualBox OSE under Debian Squeeze on laptop) That should be all up to date...

I service my own computers and have done for years, even laptops which are slightly harder to work with due to the mass of screws taking them apart and limitation on what can be replaced anyway. I know enough to fix most software issues, however with both software and hardware there is more to learn...

I have a 256MB Raspberry Pi and a 512MB Raspberry Pi, I haven't had chance to fully explore what can be done with them, one (the 512MB one) sits on a desk in my living room running RISC OS (which I recommend people try at least once), the 256MB one that I own has the Raspbian Linux distro for the Pi...

I'm currently taking the CompTIA A+ (I suspect that is what you mean by A+), only been taking it a couple of weeks so not passed it yet, my advice would be to keep looking over any study material and do some research related to the course, and perhaps look for some practice exams as suggested in ano...

I doubt it will cost too much, I have a Dell PowerEdge SC1425, a proper rackmount server, just sits on a shelf in my living room and since getting it my electricity usage is about the same as it was before, the server is rarely under heavy load, plus it's up 24/7 as I use it to host websites from ho...

That explains a lot I'd just moved over to using RISC OS on a Raspberry Pi, and had no problems whatsoever accessing other phpBB and PHP-Nuke based sites using the supplied Netsurf browser, but could not get onto here because of CloudFlare, as it requires Javascript and Netsurf doesn't support it fo...

I can personally recommend the charger supplied with the Samsung Galaxy S II for powering the Raspberry Pi, I have used this with no problem, they're probably not that cheap to get hold of if you don't have a Samsung smartphone but they do the job. Another thing worth checking just in case is that y...

I mean have you got a domain name and made it available? I wonder how much effort it would be to get my laptop connected to the internet as a web server. It already has IIS and so I think I need a domain name and then to somehow hook it up to the web but not sure what steps are needed. Or if it cos...

My Raspberry Pi arrived this morning, it is a new revision of the board that is built here in the UK, not had the chance to fire it up yet as I still don't have a display to connect it up to.

I have long been interested in radio, and today, nearly 26 years after I got my first shortwave radio at age 12, I'm a licensed Technician, the first amateur radio license level. I plan to take the General (level two) exam in a month or two. The thing is, I don't know what to do now. I got a compli...

Have one on order from Farnell, though I had to order a new television as well as none of my monitors have DVI (except for the display unit for the kitchen computer which is pointless) and my existing television is based on technology from the dark ages so naturally would lack HDMI input. I have pre...
