Allright! I am gonna ask a *REALLY* stupid question here. I know it's dumb but you have to consider that I'm a kinda old fashioned guy with autism. My stupid question is, "WHAT THE HECK IS TIKTOK?" I keep seeing this in the newspapers, but what the heck is it? And WHY is "tiktok"...

...your Autism has "improved" with age, gotten worse, or stayed the same? Has a diagnosis had any bearing on improvement OR regression? I don't think my autism has gotten worse in fact, if anything it's gotten better if for no other reason that I figured out by trial and error what worked...

(Snip) I have this thing where I close my left eye and press against it for a short time. It helps to ease the anxiety but afterward for a few seconds my vision is blurry and I see stars. But I'm worried about the harm it's doing to my eye. Does anyone know what harm it is doing or could do? I've t...

How to start this... I've always a little off (that's the more polite way to describe what I've been told by others). I've always walked on my toes, never look people in the eye, rarely talk. stayed away from any social interaction, had severe anxiety disorder and depression along with a few learni...

Thanks. You can see that I am trying to make sense of things. When I am assessed, I am not sure, but if I am on the spectrum, would the assessment be able to pick up on the things like this? I know this one is minor as one just avoids cooked eggs unless they are mixed in things so I don't notice th...

Since a child I just don't like cooked egg. I will eat it raw though I rarely do, but boiled, poached, fried etc... Errr! It came to me thinking about it that it is the feeling of the white of the egg in my mouth that turns me and the smell, where though as a young child I did not mind the yoke, an...

Juliette, I must say that’s a most interesting history you shared with us! You mentioned Australia. Are you still there? Australia has been in the news a lot in America due to the terrible bush fires. Another one of my quirks or fixations in addition to railways is forestry and trees. In fact, once ...

Mountain Goat, Yes, I have fallen on my bicycle many, many times. Here in Indiana we get a lot of "freezing rain" in the winter. That happens when the air aloft is warm but the temperature at ground level is well below freezing. So the precipitation falls as rain but freezes as soon as it ...

Welcome to Wrong Planet :D. I also wonder what the pdocs said to parents about kids like us back then. I read "Look me in the Eye" by John Elder Robison and he had been diagnosed sociopath as a kid. He kept wondering when he was going to turn into a murderer and later got an adult AS diag...

I had zero speech until the age of 5 1/2. Most interesting. Since many people’s memory starts at about age four, do you remember not talking when you were 5½? As I’ve said, I had no delay in speech THAT I KNOW OF (my parents are both dead so I can’t ask them if I did). Although I was essentially ve...

Juliette, Thanks ever so much for your lovely response. I believe that Haley Moss is a most remarkable person. I suspect that I would have at least a few similar experiences in my childhood. She was fortunate in that they knew exactly what her problem was and worked on it. When I was a child, I don’...

Mountain Goat, Yes, I was fascinated by trains from a very early age. We lived in Connecticut in the late 1950s and there were several electrified lines in the area. This was the old New Haven Railroad. Here’s a picture: https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/thenhrhtanewhavenrailroadforum/ef-4-a-classic-t...

Sharon,
I especially like what you said that "the difference: our verbal ability relative to our intellectual ability is way, way, way, way lower." That makes good sense. I guess that would include me, too.

Yes. Both Juliette and I are into model trains. Dear Juliette and "Mountain Goat", What's up with the trains connection? Is there some kind of a connection between being interested in trains and autism? I was a train freak for as far back as I can remember – at least to age four. Based on...

Ezra, That's a good thought. I guess no two autistic people are exactly alike. But there are similarities. Haley Moss, in spite of her impressive and remarkable accomplishments, stated that she struggles a lot with "executive functioning". I had to Google for that 'cause I had no idea what...

I've been diagnosed as level 2, but I had normal, even advanced language for my age as a young child. I have periods now in my adulthood where I lose my ability to speak and can't physically produce words. The autism/Asperger's differential is a bit outdated now: these days your diagnostic level is...
