Definitely a relief, looking at my long and painful life from the new perspective of being autistic made all the difference. At my old age it took a lot of sorting of past experiences, but it has been healing and helpful. I was so glad to know I was not a bad person and that everything was not "... |

As a young person I begged for therapy, everybody always told me things were all my fault. I thought there was something wrong with me too.( of course it was autism and nobody knew). I am sure if I had go that sort of "therapy" as a child I would not be living to tell about it today. I cou... |

Who would not be avoidant after a life time of not being able to understand motives, why people were constantly angry with me, saying I was thoughtless, uncaring, mean, bad, etc etc etc and me not being able to understand what people wanted of me, when every interaction was a demand for me to do som... |

One of the ways we know we are autistic! "Being social" is too hard, there are too many pitfalls and uncomfortable places where I don't understand what is going on or why. Being alone doesn't worry me the way I worry when I am interacting with one or more people. Am I saying the right thin... |

early in my life I was trained to respond to demands of others, it did no good to try to understand their emotions or to try to express mine. I was simply to respond to them (please them) when they interacted with me. To do anything else was dangerous. I distinctly remember deciding that emotions we... |

verbosity is the use of words. A verbose person uses many words sometimes when fewer would work as well. verbosity is "wordiness", whether written or spoken. Comprehension is the understanding of words and their proper use in language, spoken or written. (although comprehension can also me... |

over 40 percent of the world's population need glasses. I got corrective lenses at age 8 and it helped to be able to see clearly. But there was/is no help for my 25th percentile visual processing... people kept telling me my vision was corrected, there was no excuse for not understanding except that... |

Aspergers label has gone away in DSM and replaced with level 1 autism. Level one has social struggles, problems with communication and understanding others, and has sensory struggles. Level one( which used to be aspergers) means we don't need a caretaker or help dressing or feeding, bathing or bathr... |

technic1, Todays DSM does not say "aspergers" any more. They did away with that label when they changed the criteria the last time. There will be other changes in the future. It is a "work in progress". Diagnosis now is all based on how much support a person needs, and listed as ... |

Once I found out about my autism diagnosis I was able to self accommodate to the point that much of the anxiety was relieved, and retiri... |
