In the USA, AA stands for "Alcoholics Anonymous." Is that what the advert was for?

AA in the UK also stands for Automobile Association - a national emergency breakdown service. They pride themselves on being fast and competent whenever and wherever their members need them.

Too many chavs, hoodies, bad manners, drunk teenagers, rotten politicians, nanny state rules, sofa sales. Too much apathy, self-centredness, obesity, nimbyism, road rage, traffic, light pollution, cctv in public places, house-building, immigration, positive discrimmination. Good stuff, erm.... media...

I requested something to help calm me down beforehand...but the Dr. blew me off completely and told me it was nothing and I wouldn't feel anything at all. Needless to say he was full of it. I did find it painful, I got scared, panicked and freaked out midway during the procedure screaming like a lu...

Thanks so much for all that detail, Belfast. You have had the most traumatic time and the thought of having LEEP without any form of sedative is appalling to me. The link you provided is really useful, apart from the bit about it being 'nearly pain-free' Although I suppose that admitting that...

I'm 6' and 142lb which I'm told is skinny for my height. I think I'm a reasonable weight but I suspect other people consider me to be too thin because being overweight or obese is becoming normal these days. Regardless, I wouldn't want to be any fatter as I like being able to see my ribs and hip bon...

Well. I've made the appointment and warned them that I will have a panic attack, regardless of how nice and sympathetic they are. The receptionist was very kind and said that a nurse will be with me to hold my hand and talk me through the panic, so I'm feeling that I may be able to get through it. I...

I make sloe gin and it's very moreish. Ingredients Sloes (as many as you can find - 1lb will make a good bottle of gin) Granulated sugar, to taste Gin Method 1. Gather your sloes from blackthorn hedgerows after the first frosts - in any case before the end of November. They are incredibly astringent...

I've always been a loner - dealing with other people is often too exhausting. I spend most of my free time alone (with my dog and my horse) and I value that time quite highly. If I get asked to spend time with other people (socialising etc) I sometimes turn them down because I want to be by myself, ...

It's hugely reassuring to hear that you're better and have suffered no lasting trauma from your experience. Just knowing someone else understands makes me feel that I may be able to get through it and that I'm not completely abnormal. I'm in the UK so am going through the NHS facilities. I had two a...

Thanks, Belfast. It helps to know it's not just me :( I have quite a high pain threshold but not for this. I used to get vaginismus as soon as the nurse picked up the speculum and have had a number of failed attempts to take a pap smear in the past. However, if the nurse is considerate and patient, ...

Yes absolutely.

I used to have intense feelings for Richard III as he was deeply misunderstood and wrongly portrayed by historians after his death.

Right now I would do anything to be able to spend some time with Tim McVeigh.

I'm glad it's over. [mini-moan] I went home to my parents where my elderly grandmother was also visiting. Long story short we ended up in casualty with her on Christmas Day night - paramedics picked her up at 10pm and she was finally admitted to a ward at 2.30am Boxing Day morning after x-rays etc. ...

That's really useful, Roxas - thanks :)

I've copied and pasted it to print out next time I fly, as this is one of the 'what if' scenarios I think about when I'm on a long, boring drive.

It's as well to be prepared

Interesting. I was 5'10" aged 14 and the tallest girl in my school. I'm now 6'. Not sure if my head was considered outsize or not and there are not many photos of me with which to check, as I detest the camera being pointed at me. But yes, I definitely was, and still am, tall in comparison with my p...
