Does anyone sometimes provoke a shocked response when you don't show the expected level of deference to authority figures like doctors or other official "experts"? I have no problem disagreeing with people if I think they are wrong but certain people can react quite poorly to this and take... |

Mindfulness has helped me a lot with this. I can enjoy the present and leave the future for later. |

I browse the site on my android tablet and performance is woeful. The huge number of animated flash ads also drain my battery very quickly. That is why I use Adblock on PC. This is probably the most ad infested website I use regularly.

Interesting topic given the forum it's posted on. I think it's easy for aspies to assume that "normal" people are an homogenous mass of socially competent drones. Lots of people who wouldn't meet the criteria for an ASD have traits. Social awkwardness, obsessive interests, sensory sensitiv... |

Nobody is self-reliant. We all rely on others. Those others might be family, friends, government agencies, teachers or doctors. The idea that it's even possible to be some self-made objectivist ubermensch is childish. We all benefit from handouts whether explicit or implicit. Roads, schools, parenta... |

I'm not a doctor but that doesn't sound like a good idea. Suffering is a state of mind, an unpleasant one that is an unavoidable part of life but seeking it out seems unhealthy. |

I don't cry. I'm not sure I can. I didn't do it much as a child either. Not because Iwas told not to, I just don't feel the need. |

I don't think watching TV before you go to sleep is a great habit. Professionals wouldn't recommend but if it works for you. I personally don't watch any TV in bed or an hour before I go to sleep. If you associate it with stimulating activities, you might find it more difficult to sleep. Also scree... |

Mid-twenties is when most people expect you to have a career of some sort. Early thirties and it gets really awkward because it's obviously not normal. Not that being normal is all that great but it's important to appear normal so people don't judge you. Don't ask me why. Those are just the rules an... |

It's hard to say why I play games. I just enjoy them. Sometimes I play too much, read too much, eat too much, sleep too little. There's nothing inherently bad about any of these activities but too much of any one is probably going to have a negative impact on your health. I love videogames, I'm not ... |

My family is middle-class but first generation middle-class. I might not be able to maintain my membership of this class because of my poor employment history. I do have the education and accent you'd expect from a bona-fide member of that tribe but not the income. If we were to define social class ... |

I can't agree with the OP. Humans tend to remember and publicize the negative a lot more then the positive or things that have a mixture of negative and positive. This leaves an overinflated perception of negativity. I'm the OP and I agree with you. I wasn't in a very good mood when I created this ... |

My main issue is awkwardness. I do get social anxiety and I also sometimes avoid situations that make me uncomfortable but the awkwardness is at the root of the other, related problems. Even when I decide not to avoid some situation, my awkwardness can just reinforce my anxiety when I do expose myse... |
