Thanks for all your ideas! Since he is obsessed with weather we found a great project that involves him building his own weather station from household items. A weather vane, barometer and hygrometer. He'll use these instruments & weather folklore to predict the weather. The control is local new...

The teacher volunteered my 8 year old to be in the science fair. He's great in science. (And it counts for a grade) The problem is the sheet that she gave us with ideas on it was called "GAY" (Sorry....gotta love the public school bus riders) by my child and that it was all boring. Ideas suggested b...

Yes, Vanderbilt dx'd Asperger's and that's why they had him see the developmental ped. to verify ADHD as a co-existing condition.

Thanks.....I found something.

Long story short my 8 year old went to see a developmental ped (per center for child development). Just to check him out and see if his meds needed to be changed. Everything is fine but under the "nuerological" results the doc noted this: "reflexes mildly increased" & "mild tremor upon reaching"...

My son took Adderall for 3 years and complained that it made his head feel funny. (Not to mention made him aggressive) but different stimulants work differently on different people. It's trial and error on which one's work for which person. Right now Focalin is the new drug of choice...... Which lea...

I feel that we've been blessed to find out while he's young. They also had the discussion about people who have been diagnosed with AS or suspected AS. Named off the people (Einstein, Newton, Edison....) and someone in the class said....they're good in science like him. The school has been understan...

We had "aspie" day last week at school. We played "In my mind" for his classmates followed by explaining that this is what is going on with my little guy. Then she read "All cats have Asperger's Syndrome". All the little girls in class were crying as well as the teacher. Needless to say....what the ...

[My mother was suspicious about how I could be FULL of a meal, and STILL have cake. The TRUTH is that at times I was full of cake, and had a meal! She just never seemed to realize that. WHO KNOWS? Maybe he is telling the TRUTH! As for asking him, you can ask later, when he is willing and able to tal...

My son loved the stroller too. I also had (and still sometimes have) a problem with him expecting a toy or candy whenever we go somewhere. I tell him before we get in the store that I'm not buying anything for him and not to ask. At your son's young age, you might still have compliance issues thoug...

whateveryousay2007, In such a case, putting him in a buggy would amount to TORTURE, or child abuse! Have you asked HIM what was going on????[/quote] What? He actually likes the buggy when we go places. That way he can sit there and play with his toys or books. (unless the buggy is small) You can't t...

Get him a Medic Alert bracelet, which will tell people what is actually going on. They work wonders for autistic kids (and adults too). I have meltdowns all the time, due to stress, sensory overload or whatever. I don't actually have one myself, but am considering it. Sorry I can't help more, but i...

Does anyone have an ASPIE child that has done this before? I was at a loss on what to do except catch him and leave. We stopped by a craft store, nothing exciting had happened that day and he had been overstimulated. Anyway, we stopped in and he ran away from me. Everytime I'd try to get close he'd ...

If you're after a good resource to explain it, I'd suggest the book "All Cats Have Asperger Syndrome". It presents it in a positive way, using lots of amusing pictures of cats to illustrate it and comparing it with all the things that you love about them. Basically it works as an easy to follow, 'c...

Fortunately she's paired him up with "peer buddies" that aren't easily annoyed. They look out for him and help him out. So....far we've been lucky. Friends are hard for him. He has one friend now that he's been taking Taekwondo with for about 8 months. He goes to his house in the morning to catch th...
