Well, 50% of my marriages (out of the two) have ended in divorce. But that had more to do with my ex's PTSD than my AS.

I did graduate high school, and I'm actually college educated. Unfortunately, I chose a major with no application to the real world outside of a couple of cities. I majored in Film Studies. I'm basically qualified for retail where I live, but that's exactly what I'm trying NOT to go for. Thanks for ...

I survived without meds for most of my life, but I've noticed that with medication, I'm like a better version of myself. I like the other, medicated me more. |

I was fired from my job this past January for something I later found out was one of my psychological problems (AS makes me easily frustrated, and I often revert to rather childish behavior when under stress) and am now really frightened about getting back into the job market. I had a couple of jobs...

Worse. I've been unemployed (or employed as a housewife, whichever) for a few months. And I've noticed my social issues getting more and more pronounced. My agoraphobia is progressively worse the more I spend my days at home. It's like all the social skills I have taught myself over the years are "u...

my only real phobia is that i'm terribly afraid of calling people on the phone.. but if they call me, it's ok. i don't think that that's all that unusual, though... at least for people with AS... but i donno.. *shrug* I have that same phobia, but so does my husband. His is worse, so I'm the one who...

Same here. I used to get scolded as a kid for saying "Huh?" and then answering them before they could repeat themselves. It was like the words needed to bounce around in my head for a second and sort themselves out before I realized what someone had just said. And sometimes I can't understand them ...

I'm always afraid I make the wrong facial expression, like I don't look appropriately surprised or happy or sympathetic when I'm having a conversation with someone. Truth is, I may not FEEL whatever emotion, but I think I should LOOK like I feel it, for the sake of the conversation.

I tend to become a chameleon or mimic. I get nervous around people I don't know, so I'll watch them and try to mimic their vocal inflection, mannerisms, etc. But sometimes, I have been known to stare or get really quiet as well. I also stretch a lot.

I wouldn't want a cure. I feel that way about cancer too, being a survivor. While it's made life harder, I think I am better as a person for having survived cancer and dealt with AS. Why are you a better person after cancer? What is your reasoning for saying that? I was diagnosed with bone cancer w...

Anyone? Among my 85 other recent diagnoses (sarcasm, but it sure feels that way), I have been tentatively diagnosed with APD. I can't understand what someone is saying unless I am looking at their mouth. I can't listen to the radio or TV and hold a conversation at the same time. Parties and bars? Fo...

Inability to feel empathy is sociopathy, not psychopathy. Unless you also have hallucinations or delusions. Just sayin'. |
