I'm pretty good at masking but there are times when the mask starts to slip and I have to force it. But I have found that if I force it too hard my brain starts to try to push me into going nonverbal. If I'm not able to leave the conversation fast enough then I start to stutter. I don't think it's j...

I try to either look at their foreheads or between the eyes for brief periods. Sometimes when I need sustained eye contact I try to remember what's behind the person talking and stare straight through them imagining the shelves or whatever is behind their head.. And maybe since people are asking you...

I'm glad you've been able to rebuild, that's such a difficult situation and I doubt I'd be able to keep it together. And it sounds like therapy is going well also so that's wonderful! Take it slow with relationships and moving out. Just take some time to figure out what you want and what works best ...

My sister mentioned a game we played a few years ago and neither of us can remember the name and it's going to bother me until I find it. It was an app, rouguelike and offline, not mmorpg, and it had a style kind of like don't starve. Here are some random details The first room of the dungeon was a ...

Personally for me routine and productivity are something I have to think of separately. If I put too much productivity into my routine then I get overwhelmed. To be productive I give myself things I need to do broken down into small steps with rewards along the way. So for an hour of study you get h...

. . . I've been "mansplained" to plenty of times and it feels sh***y. Particularly because I look younger than I am and tend to flounder if pressure is added to in person conversations, even if I'm knowledgeable about the topic. It's frustrating to be talked down to and often the differ...

I can see how that can be frustrating if you're just trying to share information. There's definitely a disconnect between neurodivergent and neurotypical people when it comes to information exchange. It could just be coming across wrong. I've been "mansplained" to plenty of times and it fe...

Not as often anymore. I'd pull my hair, punch my leg, burn, or cut myself. As unhealthy as it is, the pain is very grounding and almost immediately pulls me out of a meltdown. I've learned other coping skills since then and have dropped all of them except punching which only happens once every few m...

I think how you described it is pretty accurate. A shadow of a subject, a detailed focus, then an unique overview. Neurotypical people seem to take a linear path of starting from basics and moving on slowly learning more. But sometimes I'll be working with neurotypicals and find that I have a much h...

Personally I hate sayings like "It is what it is" and "Sometimes you've gotta do things you don't want to." They're so dismissive and make me feel bad for asking questions. A runner up is "Wash rinse and repeat" because as a child I thought my mom was telling me to infi...

I used to but haven't in a while. It's mostly something I did before I realized I was autistic and it was a way of stimming/self regulating for me. I didn't know how to stim in a healthy way so if I was overwhelmed as soon as I was in private I would hit, bite, scratch, cut, burn myself and the pain...

That's a really tough situation, especially since your family isn't accepting. Maybe try to find a space outside of your house/away from your family that you feel comfortable in. Maybe see if your local library has any groups or events. They'll usually have some crafting stuff if you don't like read...

Essentially, I just got really lucky. In 1st grade my teacher was worried because I wasn't talking in class and didn't play with any friends. She suggested autism and my mom took me aside and told me I had to make some friends. One thing she suggested was if someone was new to class or sitting alone...
