And for those who live in the U.K., one can get the book catalogues by post to look through: Postscript and Bibliophile, which helps keep printed catalogues afloat, as well as printed books. And none of their offers are p.o.d.s!

Yes. I won't use Amazon for lots of reasons, and I don't like the closing down of the used bookstores I so much enjoyed browsing in.
Betterworld funds literacy programs, and all postage is free, even for transatlantic orders.

I only go on Amazon to check the existence of a book. I order from Betterworld, Book Depository, WOB or Ebay. The thumbnail pictures there show me what is likely to be a "book" or a real book. I check the year of publication and the publisher.

Many p.o.d. "books" are just badly xeroxed sheets of paper glued together. In some there is no pagination, pages are blank, or the print goes offpage.
Yet they are priced as expensively as real books, and one boasted on its cover "Best quality book"! !

Were I a conspiracy theorist, which I am not, I would be tempted to believe that p.o.d. "books" and irritant paperback covers were deliberately aimed at making us all go digital and abandon printed books. Which is why it is important to patronise independent bookshops and buy real books, b...
