Wouldn't it be better to be said to have "Sucharewa's Syndrome" than "Asperger's Syndrome"?

At least it wouldn't have a name which causes further social difficulty.

Forum: Computers, Math, Science, and Technology   Topic: Icons mean nothing to me. Do they mean something to you?

In some ways I am really good at using computers, but I have a problem using computers in other ways, particularly programs with icon-based interfaces. The icons mean nothing to me. Each time I use an icon-based interface that doesn't have words, I get so frustrated, because I can't tell what the ic...

For ~20 years I have had an interest in computer interfaces. It's not so much that I was interested in what computers could do, but I've always been able to understand computer interface concepts, so I know just about every detail in how they work. I can almost always immediately understand how to c...

Being autistic is not about being a rebel. Being autistic is not about making a conscious decision to not conform to cultural norms. Being autistic involves not being able to intuitively identify what those cultural norms are, and it's very dangerous and detrimental for a person to simultaneously be...

I wasn't diagnosed as a child, and still am not(although I don't think I would be here after almost seven years if I wasn't as certain as I could be without said official diagnosis). I believe that I fall into the category of "twice exceptional". I think that this idea is wrong. There are so many ar...

First, I'll point out that I have color-deficient vision, which means that my color vision is different than other people's(and not that I don't see color), so that could cause or exacerbate the problem; I think that since my eyes had a tendency to misidentify colors, any time I would say that I tho...

2) You really REALLY don't want to go out on that date with the girl called Susan who you met on Dateline. It might be an idea to avoid the one called Julie as well. I think that you are not in the U.S., and that "Dateline" is a dating chat service wherever you are. Is that correct? In the U.S., yo...

I was a child when I first realized that I had trouble identifying people by their faces. My sister and I took a plane flight without our mom. When we returned a few weeks later, my mom came to pick us up from the airport, but I couldn't identify her. My sister did, and very quickly, and my mom obvi...

I've always just guessed that NTs don't perceive things as strongly as we do, and as a result it's easier for them to ignore unpleasant sensory inputs. I assume this must be the case. There must be something about their nervous systems which either does not work as acutely or which functions to ign...

I don't think that anyone ever thought that I was normal, but I was born a little more than ten years too early for "Asperger's Syndrome" to be considered as a diagnosis. Adults considered me "gifted". It seemed that regardless of the group, other children could always identify that I was not like t...

Quite a bit. The fact that those few words are considered off-limits is ridiculous, when some of those words are things which are great, and when there are things which are significantly worse but which are considered fine to say. Why is the particular word that starts with "f" considered a bad word...

I've been in administrative and moderatorial roles at various sites since the 1990s. When there are spammers, it's best not to post about it, and to not post in the spammers' topics. That makes it more difficult to identify which topics are spam and which are real topics. I don't even recommend post...
