I am just wondering who else does not feel part of the LGBT subculture, and/or lacks interest in joining it. I am an openly gay man in a city that has a rather large LGBT community. There is definitely a large subculture here. I notice that older gay men incorporate it into their identities more tha...

What a nice plan. Implementation is always the tricky part, but at least Clinton has a thoughtful vision for assistance and integration at every stage of life. I hope this leads to a world where ASD requires no assistance at all with social integration -- society just knows how to welcome them in.

A month ago, I won a multistate election to represent this region's students at a national professional organization. It's humbling, but it's also a bit frightening. While I ran out of my own free will, I did it more or less as a favor to others. It's not that I didn't want the job (I do), but I was...

Returning back to the law itself (and not the manner it was passed in)... I have no problems with guns themselves. While I personally do not own a gun and probably never will (they seem useless to me), I see them as a central part of our culture. Gun ownership does not strike me as rational, but no...

We do have more options than the past did. Rome fell and Romans ceased to exist. Only the Eastern Empire continued, but in the west, not a single Roman city survived, their language died, and writting it's self ended. Rome fell from a peak of power and population. They went till they ran out of pla...

This NASA-funded study says that Western civilization is at risk of total collapse in the next few decades or so. A researcher at the University of Maryland used a mathematical model that apparently assumed 1.) a finite number of resources, 2.) increasing resource consumption, and 3.) increasing inc...

Have you ever heard of megaregions, as defined by the Federal Highway Administration? They are collections of cities in close geographic proximity that share strong trade links, transportation infrastructure, and increasingly a common labor pool. The major Northeast cities form one megaregion, as do...

This really isn't all that surprising, given America's history. Since the very beginning, American society has had a strong anti-intellectual streak. I am not sure this is uniform (the circles in America I run in reward intelligence), but it's there. I can't say whether it caused our public schools...

On the flip side, our nation consistently attracts the brightest and most talented people. Hmm... not sure about this. The US seemed to be far more welcoming of me and my desire to achieve than my home country. Australia has a real issue with Tall Poppy Syndrome where the smart are cut down. In Ame...

The U.S. will not use military force, and neither will anyone else in Europe. The Obama White House has been extremely reluctant to use force, particularly in the face of opposition at home. It would be hard to picture how he would be willing to directly engage a great power such as Russia. What rem...

I am looking for an internship over the summer, and already received one written offer. The internship does not start until two months from now, and while it's a great organization based on its merits, there are a few things coming along that might be better. One job in particular is likely to make ...

There are a couple of things at play here. One of them is that WalMart has performed so poorly in emerging markets (which is not surprising, given the recent trouble they have been seeing). Another is that the U.S. market is nearly saturated. They have built most of the big box stores that they could.
