20 years ago, long before I got a formal diagnosis for autism, I spent one year with weekly therapy sessions. The psychologist didn't strictly follow one method religiously. A lot of it was psychodynamic but it was also a portion of CBT in the mix. The psychologist said that I might be autistic but ...

Masking takes a lot of effort and makes your brain tired which affects your ability to remember things that you are not very interested in.

In private conversations Margaret Thatcher always referred to the 1960's as "The Stones Age".

It is really not appropriate for a teacher to arrange duel fights with swords in the classroom. It is not the dumbest thing I have ever heard, but high on the list.

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Are all people with autism picky about food

When I was a kid there were different kind of food that I really didn't like, but I never really had a choice but to eat what was served. You could say that I learned the hard way not to be picky about food. When it comes to pain and fatigue I am to a large extent able to in the same way override it...

Maybe practising some kind of mindfulness meditation could be helpful. It can help you to be able to step back and observe these emotions instead of being taken over by them. Then instead of "being angry" you "feel anger" and have a choice about how to react to the feeling. It ta...

There are some people whose personalities are so magnetic that it compensates for their lack of attractiveness. I don't think it possible for such a person to be on the autism spectrum, though. I think if you have a certain magnetic personality it actually makes you (physically) attractive even if ...

I think slogans like "any man can be a rapist" or "any man can be a violent assaulter" are not only an insult to men but actually harmful to women. I read that 0,5% of the men in my country are convicted sex offenders. That makes it about four times more likeley that a man is au...

I am far from an expert on Autism Speaks but from what I have heard, read and learned about them I find it hard to trust them when they say they have changed. As far as I know, their "skill training" seems to have a lot in common with how you domesticate a dog or a horse without asking sai...

People don't care how you look, and if they do the opinion of strangers don't matter anyway. I have had some major "wardrobe malfunctions" when working out without any consequences that I know of. At one occasion I lifted weights for an hour in the gym before I had to use the toilet and fo...
