Your family, your kid, your comfort level, your decisions. All of my children are ASD, and our potty training ages range from 6 to 10. Strangely enough, my most severely affected Level III kiddo trained earliest. Go figure. We homeschool, though, so we don't have any pressure to potty train b...

Miss Babybird, what a beautiful thread. I, also, strongly believe that religion matters. It does seem, at least to me, that those strongest in their faith (I can speak only of Christianity here, as I lack in-depth knowledge of/experience with other religions) are generally full of joy, unafr...

"Genetic researchers on the whole have done little to listen to, and address, the fears of the autistic community regarding security and future use of genetic data," says Fletcher-Watson. There is a reason that "researchers have done little to address these fears." They don't ca...

What a great thread idea. I'm a mom of many (more than 6, fewer than 12); everyone is on the spectrum. Most of my children haven't yet reached adulthood, and there have been too many rewarding moments to count, even now. Every triumph from either side of parenting (mine or kiddo) is rewardin...

I'm currently episcopalian but am thinking about converting to the Eastern Orthodox church (OCA), anybody here EO? I'm not Orthodox, but since you're considering Eastern traditions, I'd encourage you to look into Eastern Catholicism. Roman Catholicism is the only Western Rite; but there are nearly ...

Trying to navigate helping my 26 yo aspie daughter launch too, or at least be able to help me manage our home financially and physically. We now have to get by on just my income, as her father left the picture. I also think it would help her depression and make her feel better about herself to have...

Are you suggesting that all the previously-mentioned risks if combined together (aggregated) have a high chance of resulting in divorce? Yes. The more risk factors a couple has, the greater their chance of divorce. We cannot apply macro-level data to individuals, which is why we can discuss "c...

What is the main root cause of the decline of marriage in the U.S? Disclaimer: My education and training in this sphere applies only to the United States. Sociologically speaking, marriage rates are falling because people (who are rational beings and respond to rewards/punishments) have fewer socia...

Would you say society/schools/teachers/other parents treat your children with stigma due to disability? Yes. Extended family, as well. But we do have a small circle of friends who love us, and they are absolutely cherished. Does society treat disabled sex as taboo because we shouldn't have children...

Irritated thing: there really is no parking problem on my block: evidenced by several empty parking spaces every evening when I go for a walk. Apparently other areas it is a real problem. We are in the process of trying to rent garage space. Ugh. I hate it when HOAs 'fix' things that aren't broken....

The definitions you provided are just that -- definitions , which prove nothing. Your belief is strong, but mere belief proves nothing. My apologies; I didn't realize this thread was for proving anything. I'm relatively new here, and am still learning which topics go where. In the future, would dis...

The sad thing about claiming gifts of the Holy Spirit is that there is no way for the claimant to prove his or her claims. This might explain why Sacred Tradition, among Catholics, defines the Gifts of the Holy Spirit as: https://www.catholic.com/magazine/print-edition/the-seven-gifts-of-the-holy-s...

Fenn, I wish I could help with your first post. :( We share similar parenting worries ("Am I doing enough?" "Am I doing too much?" "What the heck should I even *be* doing???"). For the following, though, I have an idea: To add insult to injury the HOA (Home Owners Assoc...
