Know a person who kept sucking his thumb until his early teenage years, simply because he enjoyed it. He's a top lawyer now, graduating from his country's top university with an acceptance rate of 4%. People obviously develop at different paces ... It sounds like your son is having a lot of sensory ...

It sounds really hard. Without going into too much detail toilet training was (is to an extent) a problem for us too. It can be super stressful because on one hand you want to trust your kid to learn by themselves, but on the other hand society is always pushing parents to "raise the kids asap&...

Lately, though, he’s developed a new behaviour after pooping that I really don’t know how to interpret. I’ve seen him sitting and kind of "bouncing" on his bottom (hard to describe), and he laughs like he thinks it’s hilarious Just to be clear, I don't know how your kid really feels, just...

One thing I remember a few years ago that helped me whenever my day was a complete social and executive function disaster was 明日は明日の風が吹く Or (in my own terrible translation) Tomorrow blows the wind of tomorrow. It means if today (or everything up to now) was screwed up, you'll have a new chance tomor...

Pains me to see all the current developments. Remember tinkering with my ISDN modem in the early 2000s to connect to the world when things were so-so in high school. Made a lot of friends around the world, including a whole bunch of Americans, and that's how I learnt English. When I talked to some l...

Not going to say no because you seem like a balanced person, but life abroad is hard no matter where you go, mostly due to economic reasons. So I'll say what's needed to make international relationships work long term is good money, shared language (at least one of you fluent in the others), respect...

On paper your life sounds great to me but I always need some social interaction to keep my social brain satisfied. Low key low stakes interaction like pancakes or something. Online works well too as a complement (not substitute). And a good chunk of "alone" at times. Find the balance that ...

@Jimmy m Maestro Jimmy, Thank you for your compassionate and caring feedback, thank you. And I can confirm your advice full hearted; If you'll allow me to restate in the words of a friend of mine who has been practicing clinical psychology for 25 years: "Most people come to me, stating that th...

Thank you all for your welcome, my dear veteran's of the wrong planet :) and @Sugamon ; maestro, thank you. My kids are doing all but my daughter have now reached the "adult" level and are socially active, healthy and have amazing hearts. (perhaps a parental evaluation is not always the m...

Hi! I'm a dad too, though not single. Hope your kids are doing well!

Keep developing your executable, keep installing more RAM. It's all doable.

Aren't modern communities algorithm-diven for max clicks & time spent? Drama → engagement → more drama → toxicity → repeat = ad revenue for big tech.

Reminds me of those toxic barrels in Doom. You stay away from them because if they explode you get hurt.

I don't understand why I feel the need to marry someone (despite not currently being with anyone) and have a child just for the sake of doing it because other people are doing it and not really feeling like wanting it while another part of my brain doesn't want it. I'm worried if that happened beca...

My autism didn't get better.
I learned more about the condition and then learned healthier coping mechanisms.

Social skills can be learned.

Too much sometimes... If I overshare to other dads at work (or God forbid, middle age men without kids) they silently hate me. Trick is to look absolutely exhausted so at least they feel you pay some price for it..

(I am absolutely exhausted 90% of the time though)

Me asking my wife: "What do parents around here do when they get overloaded with stress and snap?"
Wife (jokingly): "They go where nobody can see them and explode alone"
Child: "Mom explodes alone"

... Don't say that to the preschool teacher ... :o
