I find it interesting that you use the phrase "supposed to" in your post title. I usual pause and reflect when I hear myself saying "supposed to" or "should" because it usually means I am comparing myself to somebody else's standards. If your current level of contact or...

jimmy m wrote: PhD_autistic_adults, I have no problem with you performing research here. In reality, you may even have a condition called Asperger's Syndrome. Many smart Aspies actually go off to college and get advanced degrees.
Thank you! and also for your response on my "new member" post. |

I'm not autistic but I recently interviewed 16 autistic adults and this definitely came up. One example that comes to mind is the interviewee being asked things like "how can you be autistic and married?", "how can you be autistic and have children"? I think there is a misunderst...

This is really interesting. I wonder if there is a compromise to be had. For example, on the days when you are feeling motivated and able to join a conversation, do your usual Skype thing. But, on days when that is too much, maybe you could practise in other ways like watching a show in Spanish or l...

Thank you for your comments. I completely understand the perspective that autism research should be conducted by autistic people, particularly in light of the history of autism research and the harm that has often been caused. I also really appreciate your encouragement to engage with the research i...

I think it is because I am a non-autistic researcher. This forum member has replied to my other post saying autism research should only be carried out by autistic people. I understand and respect this perspective, especially given the history of autism research. I will leave my previous response her...

You're not alone at all! This is a very common experience after being diagnosed later in life. Many late-diagnosed adults experience multiple emotions including denial, sense of loss, relief but also feeling like they finally understand themselves. There are lots of research papers on this topic too...

Just chipping in and saying 'Hi'. I don't have bipolar but cyclothymia - its more gentle cousin so I can relate to what a number of people have said about bipolar in this forum. The main difference seems to be that I don't have any hallucinations or delusional thinking. There can be a small element...
