Provided the brain aneurysm I was recently diagnosed with doesn't cripple or snuff me. Amazing--another WP person with a brain aneurysm! That was my medical adventure of 20 years ago. Best wishes for a good outcome from your embolization. My compensations for my traits were largely lost in the afte...

I'm now deciding whether to study toward engineering or straight science, or animal and veterinary bioscience .. I did spacecraft engineering for the last 20 years (after other careers in totally different industries). I went back to school in my mid-30s to prepare for this. I loved it. Very AS-fri...

As mentioned, I think it has to do with expectations (everyone's) and flexibility. I had never lived outside the region of my birth, but never gave culture shock a thought (since I had traveled to Asia and Europe and fit in just fine) till I spent some time in my in-laws' town, several thousand mile...

I seem to only be lactose-intolerant. A few other foods disagree with me, but not to a great degree. Interestingly, I seem to have gotten the lactose-intolerance from my NT mother, not my AS father. I am, however, somewhat picky about food, but that's another story.

Indeed! I think the first year I ever followed the TdF was the year that Bjarne Riis won and so when he got his own team I was interested in how things would go. Such an amazing collection of riders with complementary specialties. Clearly doing something right!

Also love cycling (pro cycling is one of my special interests) and used to do triathlons. do you ride any? who is your favorite team, favorite riders? Sorry--stopped following this for a while! I don't ride much anymore (not road, anyway) since I started to break bones (hereditary osteoporosis). I ...

Just thought of a worst-case scenario--killer bees make a hive inside a fire-damaged tree. Hiker walks under tree. Limb breaks off, pinning screaming hiker to ground. Pissed-off bees take out wrath on pinned hiker. Now I won't be able to sleep for a week.

Sigh. As a trail runner, I have encountered 3 mountain lions, regularly encounter well-behaved bears, see rattlers all the time (well, not in winter), and it just goes with the territory. Some people think I am brave, more think I'm crazy. So what really frightens me? Bees and trees. I've been stung...

In my case, a lot of circumstantial evidence points that way. My father died decades before AS was a diagnosis, but almost certainly had it. He had IBS-like problems all his life. I seem to have inherited his "touchy guts" plus some vaso-vagal issues (in my case, bowel sensations give me funny heart...

I think many people and particularly women are taught that it is rude to say "no" to a polite request. Even if for reasons of their own, they don't want to help. They are taught not to be egoistic and to put the wishes of others above their own...etc Wow--never heard it put more succinctly! Explain...

Just another single data point, but yes, if I consider it funny, I laugh about a second or two ahead of the majority of the other folks. Some people have told me that they don't think I "get" it if I laugh so quickly. I find that this often confuses the people I am with, because I won't laugh (maybe...

I think this is a very clever plan! It is a shame that those of us that need more time alone have to resort to this kind of thing, but I am a practical sort of person and admire any solution which makes everyone feel ok. I am lucky that my husband has to spend regular times out of town (taking care ...

Yes. The SO of a male friend was "intimidated" by me (her words). We all used to go hiking together, but she could apparently only relate to other females in a certain way (complaining about job, weight control, health issues). Not my favorite areas of conversation, but I did the best I could to cha...

I try pretty hard to keep my words accurate. I knew another guy who was very similar - it does seem to annoy some people....one lady accused him of "hiding behind the facts" LOL!! ! I am very non-argumentative, figure it's not worth the energy in most cases, but in the few cases where I have...

I'd love this idea, particularly for regional sayings. When I visited my husband's family for the first time in the South, my SIL often used the expression "I'm not bothered by [xxx]". I thought she meant that whatever it was didn't actually bother (irritate) her. I found out years later that the ex...
