Look for this description of "Conceptualist" personality types: http://www.davidmarkley.com/personality/conceptualist.htm [remember that, in these context, "NT" means "iNtuitive Thinker", not "NeuroTypical"] Don't you think that these types (around 10% of the population) in many ways ressemble a "s...

my response to being told to come out of my shell is to give them what they ask for (though not necessarily what they wanted). i just start talking about whatever's on my mind (which is never quiet). after a minute or so they change the subject and i can go back into my shell. Love it! I have usual...

There's definitely an autistic-to-neurotypical continuum. You'll see people who are on the border of some type of autism (not necessarily Asperger's specifically; you'll see visual types who are bad with words, too, on the border of Kanner's); but who aren't actually impaired by their traits, and s...

Sounds cogent.

if he has any strict routines or how he soialises generally Never goes out. Says he's very blunt with people. Seems that his homing pigeons are his best friends. Although he does talk about friends. I don't know when or if he sees them. I think they are people he plays music with. Says his childhoo...

I've been meeting a lot of people I think have Aspergers. Maybe it's because the things I do attract people with Aspergers (engineering, dancing, music, zen, 12-step meetings, people on line---all structured social interactions, safe). Maybe it's because I like smart people--maybe a lot of smart peo...

I get told things like, "You know your problem is that you don't get involved in other people's lives. You have to reach out." or "The solution to loneliness is to just go out and visit someone." or just the blatant, "You have to make relationships." (as I'm running away from them as fast as possibl...

I'd rather die than tell people. My AS is none of their business and if someone who heard a rumor think he can forcibly use it against me I will destroy him or the weakest link in his family/friendship circle even if that person is completely innocent. I will do anything to hurt and humiliate those...

Hope this is encouraging: One time I went on a date with someone who also has Aspergers and I decided that I wouldn't try to talk at all, just relax and respond to him. We went for a 3-hour hike in a beautiful location near the Malibu canyons. As time went on we forgot ourselves and chatted about va...

I'm not so sure about how they have left brain/right brain divided up. I'm a dancer. I studied ballet seriously for 10 years, I do swing dancing and social dancing (lindy hop, blues dancing, salsa, hip hop...), and I play the blues harmonica. Curiously, there are a lot of dancers and musicians who a...

[quote="Crion87"] If it works, I will in theory become an NT. If it doesn't work, well, that's a risk I'm willing to take. [quote] I'm not so sure it will be that black and white. I have tried several alternative therapies for various things: biofeedback, meditation (same thing as biofeedb...

Hi, Michael. Well, I'm not interested in the girlfriend part because I'm 56, but ciruclating is a good thing and this is a good start. I am replying because I so relate to what you said about it being hard to make friends. I'm so happy for you that you know what the reason is. I didn't know what it ...

I know I will be seen as unpopular here for raising this issue, but I have recently heard of Australian trials for transcranial magnetic stimulation - from what I have heard, it can get the social functioning parts of the brain to NT-approximate levels. I myself am going to volunteer for the trials...

also, i would guess that most people bring a box of donuts to work NOT to be nice, but just because they want to eat a bunch of donuts and not feel guilty about it, so the pretense of being nice, doing something for the group, makes them feel good about gobbling them down. if you are health conscio...

BTW, bagels are made with flour, mostly white. They are just as glycemic (how fast they turn into sugar in your blood) as donuts. At least they are not fried with oil. Bagels have as many empty calories as about 5 slices of white bread.

Thank you for this video. How many people do we have to allow to exist without their needs met, even to die in this country, while we kills others abroad.? Are the 4,000 American lives we lost in Iraq and the 1,000,000 Iraquis we killed enough to get somebody (anybody!) back for the 3,000 we lost he...
