Some Psychiatrists just hand that stuff out like candy when a child is diagnosed with Asperger's and the parent or anyone says they have meltdowns. Its upsetting to me because it is an anti psychotic and people with Autism are not psychotic. I didnt stop having meltdowns until I was in my 30's. I st... |

My daughter was diagnosed with severe Autism, five years ago. I went ahead and took the test anyway and she scored as severe PDD so I guess thats why they gave her the Classic Autism diagnosis but she has regressed a lot in the past year due to my illnesses and the stress of the public school. We ar... |

For me, my dog can pick things up and help me to pull off my clothes and shoes/socks. He can also help with my depression and my social issues. Maybe I can pick up more French when I am out with him/her. I feel more comfortable when someone is with me so my dog is sort of like someone. He or she wil... |

Look up Potty Watch...it worked for us when my daughter was non verbal I potty trained her at age 3. She is now 7 and I know she is stressed when she has accidents. I also bought a potty chair that fit on the big one and a step stool from IKEA, very cheap. I personally think its silly to use potty c... |

Ive been here awhile and there have been so many of these threads. I could care less if people feel they have Asperger's. I probably would have been diagnosed with HFA if I was born in this day and age <---that makes me sound really old huh? Turned out we had to wait until my last child (five kids..... |

We went yesterday to meet some of the service dogs. Maddy who is my daughter with Classic autism latched onto a white lab named Grouchy (who was not grouchy btw). He will be fully trained and ready next year when it will be time for me to get my service dog. He got out of the big pen they had and re... |

I had one horrible trip when my oldest who had early onset Bi Polar disorder was about three. He also did not sit still and could not entertain myself, its why my autistic kids are so much easier because the will be intensely interested in something for quite a long time. My daughter was accustomed ... |

Early intervention made a HUGE difference in my daughters life. She was severely autistic, no eye contact, no pointing, waving, speaking, or looking where you pointed. She spent her days lining things up, especially her huge box of plastic animals and if one fell or you moved one she would scream, p... |

As a lot of people have said, most docs wont diagnose Aspergers until a child is around 5 maybe 6.....some people are lucky and get diagnosis early. My son seemed to evolve and seem more Aspie the older he got and gets. He also had issues when he was a baby....I had to put my daughters kung fu spari... |

When I had no medication for my oldest son with Bi Polar I had a doctor actually tell me (this was before he was diagnosed) that when he was hyper I should give him some benadryl. I would not give my son anything until he was diagnosed when he was 12 but he found a friend who had faster acting drugs... |

The new tics can be from medication depending on what he is on....the aggression could be his age or the medication. Its hard to tell. Tip toe walking may be tendonitis. Its common in certain diseases. I have a disease (one of many) called Ehlers-Danlos syndrome type I (which involves skin, easy bru... |

They did lots of things in "old days" ;)....like rub whiskey on teething babies gums and that sort of thing that would give us a heart attack. We flew all over the place to see everyone before we moved and then flew to France. I had my kids very prepared. First I put their T-shirts on that basically alerted people to the fact that my kids have autism. My daughters says "This is what Autism Looks Like" and my sons said "Autistic by day Dead... |
