Forum: LGBT Discussion   Topic: Agree or disagree: Transgender should be a medical condition

One of the problems with the real life test is that it can be hard to pass for some if they don't have hormones or legal documents changed yet. Also, a lot of trans people already live as their gender, and it's kind of redundant. The media likes stories of people presenting as one extreme and then t...

As a kid, I used to suck on coins and other small metal objects, chew paper, lick hair, chew pens, pencils, and thin bits of plastic, and suck on my clothes or bits of string. And by, "kid", I mean, "up to puberty". I sometimes still suck coins.

I bind. At first I hated how it felt, but wearing it over an undershirt helps keep it from riding up or scratching. The squeeze it gives is pretty nice. Sometimes it's just too hot out and I don't bother. I'm lucky in that I'm small chested and don't strictly need to do it. I do it because it links ...

It is also insulting to FtM aspies, and cisgender female aspies. A FtM aspie could be dismissed as not "really" being trans the way NT people are trans. Female aspies meanwhile get their gender identity diminished by being told they aren't as feminine as NT women. In fact I saw a study earlier in th...

I have an aspie friend who would get yelled at by feminists because she couldn't relate to problems all women are supposed to have, like being catcalled or worrying about being fat. They told her she was in denial. She wasn't saying that stuff never happens, just that she was different. She's not tr...

I do not think LGBT leaders are any more or less intolerant, but certainly some of the groups I've been a part of have been extremely cliqueish and depressing, especially when trans or bi folks were treated as objects of derision. On the other hand, sometimes I go to LGBT religious services and the I...

I understand what you are going through. I am also late twenties, and female bodied, but I don't present as male (yet) most of the time. I also don't really present as female though. I look fairly androgenous, I wear guys clothes, I have very short hair, I rarely wear make up, and I grow a better b...

I'm in my late 20s and am female-bodied. Even before I began to present more as a guy, people frequently thought I was a lot younger. Ever since I was a teenager, I've been able to pass for 11 or 12...and that hasn't changed since I've gotten older. I hit my adult height and weight at about 12, and ...

A great deal of child molestation is incest. Our media tends to focus on those people who fit the creepy stranger stereotype -- the lone male handing out the free candy, so to speak. Those incidents where it is a socially maladjusted male picking on children he is not related to fit media expectatio...

I had difficulties as a child eating a wide variety of foods. I refused to eat meat, and I wouldn't eat anything with a bad smell or a slimy texture, like eggs, yogurt, or tomato sauce. As I got older, dealing with bad smells and textures got easier. Maybe my nose isn't as sensitive now? I think our...

I don't have a gender issue. Society does. ;) My sense of my gender is like my sense of whether I'm right side up or not. I usually think of myself as neutral or a boy. When straight guys try to flirt with me with crap like, "Hey sweetheart", it feels wrong and confusing...like they're blind. "Perce...

The worst part of this theory is the hokey name. Everything else about it makes much more sense to me than the mercury theory or the extreme male brain theory, of which I have heard so much about. It accounts for autism leading to both sensory and social problems, at the same time that it is associa...

I guess it's just such a personal and emotional issue, it's really hard for people to allow for other points of view because they feel like that would marginalize how THEY feel. Often there are also political issues involved, like feminism or conservative ideology, and that makes opinions even more ...

Aargh. Yesterday, my dad disappeared. He has health problems and is very stubborn about refusing medical care. He's always been kind of strange and obsessive, but I think it's beginning to shade into dementia. My mom has been flaky lately and not entirely rational. It seems like he hasn't been recei...
