Did you get my PM? Haven't heard back from you and wanted to make sure it went through okay. |

Any suggestions on someone in the Chicago area (preferably NW suburbs) who specializes in or can at least diagnose adult autism? It would be for me and I'm nearing 30. Thanks.

I posted this on Reddit's /r/aspergers section, but thought that WP might be a good resource too. I checked the WP rules and didn't see anything forbidding asking for doctor recommendations. I sincerely apologize if this runs afoul of any such ordinance. (Edit: seeking a diagnosis for adult ASD - I'...

LEDs are amazing. My whole house is lit by them (with the exception of two fluorescent tubes, one ring and one straight, in the kitchen) and it's the most pleasant, even, flicker-free and quiet lighting I've ever seen. I actually prefer them to incandescents for reasons above and beyond lifespan and...

Hi all, I've been off all week, burning some vacation time I needed to use up by the end of the month (to all who haven't tried, I HIGHLY recommend the humble "staycation" as a de-stressing tool. I've done little other than sit at home in the living room, enjoying only the company of my dog and swee...

Were I not an atheist, I would worship Therion as the metal gods they are. I was worried that their latest album wouldn't have that old Therion magic since the band was so drastically reorganized, but I've never been so happy to be wrong. Not quite up to the magnificence of Gothic Kabbalah, but afte...

I've been thinking a lot about what makes people religious on the level of influences in their daily lives and it occurred to me that people with AS may be inclined toward religion. I know that in my case, I never feel like I'm ever really, truly alone. It's quite distressing, really - I always feel...

Love Foobar2000. It's my only media player on all the Win32 (and now Win64) systems I use. I love its extensibility coupled with its lightweight footprint, and the fact that I have yet to find a format it can't play. For those of you who have Macs, look into Cog. It's not quite to the level of Fooba...

ReGenesis. Great science, gripping plotlines, and a terrific portrayal of a character who has AS. Furthermore, the other characters acknowledge and understand how he's different and don't treat him poorly or make jokes at his expense (well...maybe one does, but he makes jokes at EVERYONE'S expense).

David Lynch uses this whole concept a lot in his work but also tends to warp it a little. Blue Velvet and Twin Peaks are probably the best examples of this - BV is certainly the most overt - in that the horrors are commonly perpetrated by normal people with very malicious intent who have been living...

Ross from Friends. Also, his sister Monica is almost definitely OCD, and this stuff is genetic, right? It all makes sense! Phoebe's far from normal, as well, but I think she's just weird. Yep, I think so, too! :) Also, Moss and Roy from the IT Crowd are CERTAINLY Aspies! Moss, definitely, without a...

HERE BE SPOILERS: He really was a clone. He was created to be a source of replacement organs for his sick brother (the original) but the brother died and he (Mick) suffered the same ailments, as well as complications from being a clone and the process not being perfected. It's a plot point that sees...

I had a terrible time with the Brit comedy "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels." In part it may have been the heavy dialect barrier due to the use of a specific sort of slang that was featured prominently throughout the film, but it took me several viewings to get the "big picture" due to...perhap...

I LOVE this show. I watched it out of curiosity a couple years ago and at first it seemed like a variation of "House M.D." About 5 episodes in, I was completely hooked and it's shot up to my 2nd favourite sci-fi show of all time, right below Farscape. Bob is an amazing character, as are the entire c...
