| I think this is a great thread and while I definitely felt a bit defensive at the 3rd person wording 'parents are doing this because... and are being dishonest and absurd' being that there are many parents here and many who may use wording like 'have to' I actually really enjoy discussions like this... |

So the psych thought he should have a low verbal ability?
If so, I think you need a second opinion because it is common for people with AS to be average-advanced in language but often with atypical language patterns (intonation, formality, usage etc.). |

| Another thought, she has difficulty letting go of the fan when the weather cools and letting go of the heater when it warms, so I think that may also have something to do with it, she asked for the fan recently, even with her winter gear on, it is slightly too cold for the fan. Perhaps it's an inabi... |

| I don't think it's a social thing, I think it's more a varied sensory experience. I wear less clothes than other people in winter, my husband wears a lot more clothes in summer than other people. My daughter (AS) as we speak is sleeping with mittens, winter hat and slippers on, while it is perfectly... |

| What sacrip said. I say this and when I say it I mean I actually don't WANT to, I do HAVE to in order to properly raise my kids. I HAVE TO follow the rules and consequences that we have agreed on, I don't WANT to put you in the corner and listen to you scream for 5 minutes, I HAVE to because we both... |

| This is something I wonder about too! My daughter is EXACTLY like this! Thankfully when we go out she will -usually- wear appropriate clothes, but at home it is either impossible to keep anything but underwear on her (and getting to that point took time) OR she is in full winter getup, mittens, hat,... |

| As I get to know more families with members on the spectrum, it has really stuck me that AS is a condition of extremes, more than anything; exactly what each unique person excels with v. struggles with can vary quite a bit. Absolutely, this is what had me insisting there was something different abo... |

| I probably have AS ("self diagnosed" if you like) and my daughter is diagnosed with AS. It's all through my family but my daughter is the first to be diagnosed. My husband has possible AS as well, also undiagnosed. |

| I'd say get the blood tests. My daughter has chewed since the normal developmental age (what's that like 6 months?) and she's 5 now and just never stopped, she was checked for PICA but doesn't have it, hers is a stim so we provide appropriate and safe alternatives. |

My 3 year old has been fascinated with breasts for some time now, but I just laugh about it, not much I can do and I doubt he'll grow out of it... ever. My daught... |

| Fizzgiz, we are homeschooling, we'll be starting the K12 curriculum hopefully end of this year and beginning of next. I think a lot of what applies to kids on the spectrum applies to all kids, we all learn differently. To be able to give the child one on one attention, support them in their interest... |

| Just chiming in as another who experienced a similar thing at school. At one school I was bullied badly, at all of them I had no friends or the "friends" I did have didn't include me often and/or were the kids noone else wanted to play with and often ended up bullying me. I'd either sit and draw, si... |

I don't have the SAME rocks, but I still have an infamous fascination with rocks and wanting to have them (I may... |

I'm a strong believer in the genetic component though, I think that's the main thing in it all. Reason? M... |

| Potty training is a difficult issue here too. Big changes in routine cause a lot of pee accidents often for weeks, sometimes months at a time. She is 5, completely dry at night, no poo accidents (one EVER! Before she was potty trained, it freaked her out and she never had one of those accidents agai... |
