Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Are we as concerned about social mishaps as NTs?

I would think generally speaking we're likely to be more concerned about social mishaps than NTs are because we've had more of them and, not being stupid, we're wary of making further blunders. It's called social anxiety isn't it? The kind that's rational.

Names are a lifelong special interest. I have big opinions about nicknames. Apparently, the OP's general experience is that when she gives her full name to new people, they ask if they can call her an abbreviation or shorter version. WHY, WHY, WHYYYYY? If someone tells me his name is Dominic, I'm g...

I'm scared of non-metric units. To me they're as awkward as Roman numerals.

I don't like brushing my teeth but I do it because I'm s**t scared of dentist bills. I don't like brushing my teeth, but I do it anyway too, cuz I HATE going to the dentist, I haven't been to one in over 20 years. I didn't go to one for a long time when I was younger, and didn't get any toothache. ...

I don't particularly like brushing my teeth, but I was fairly content compromising so that I'd avoid fillings, until when I was older I got told I had to do interdental brushing as well. It's just insult to injury really, but I can't fly in the face of the science, so I comply. I think the reason wh...

^ Oh, I got a bit of that last time I was in England because I ran out of people to be with and places to go to, so I rotted away at home. I checked on the web and found out I scored quite well for having some not-quite-clinical version of depression. They'd given it a fancy name which I can't remem...

Well it matters to me too, but in practical terms there's nothing I can do to stop it happening. I suppose I could vote, but I'm in a safe Labour seat, so it'd make no difference. I could campaign against him but nobody ever listens to me.

It matters to you if you're interested. I'm mostly a nihilist politically, and I see a lot of philosophy and theology as a bit of a waste of space. Then there's psychobabble. Generally I'm more interested in getting my own material and emotional needs fulfilled, but sometimes I take an interest in t...

Apparently the word "Google" didn't exist before the internet, but it definitely did. In the old folk song Old Zip Coon from the 1800s it said "Google" very clearly, even though it obviously wasn't about the internet but it still said the word. So it did exist. Not only that, bu...

I've got no problem with the bible being in any school, it's what the teachers say about it that's more important I think. If they say it's an example of how the ancients used to think, fine. Could also put it in the ancient myths, legends and philosophies section to underscore the point. As for sex...

Well it's normal to want to take fewer risks as you get older. I'm a defensive pessimist so I don't take many risks, though I think I'm learning to stick my neck out a bit more as long as it looks like a reasonable risk. I like the term "reasonable risk." Sometimes it's hard to calculate, ...
