It's hard for me to put a number to how long I can stand those situations because it depends on how well I relate to the group, and when I was working I was never expected to be in a group situation for very long. The worst meetings were those that were practically irrelevent to me, and I'd get more...

It's a tricky issue. Certain seemingly harmless things set some people off. You can request a change, but if they're going to find that cumbersome to comply with, they're unlikely to want to. And if your issue with it is unusual and you can present no evidence that it's real, they're unlikely to bel...

Scriptures like John 3:16 are pretty cringey because they state that belief in Jesus is necessary for salvation. Obviously, a lot of decent people don't believe in Jesus for a variety of reasons. Some may have never heard of him. Others, like me, have read the Bible multiple times but don't find th...

I got the melody line and chords of a song in a dream once. The lyrics had to be replaced by something that made sense, and it needed a bit of tidying up, but it was a good song. I don't think it was anything supernatural. I just think that the mental state in dreams can be quite good for allowing a...

A woman I know vaguely in real life explained a practical problem she had. I offered her a lot of good advice. She became very suspicious that I had some dark ulterior motive, and demanded to know why I'd put so much effort into helping her. I replied, looking her in the face, that I just tend to do...

I had a lot of fun with psilocybin mushrooms in the 1980s before they were criminalised. I've never suffered from shutdowns or PTSD. I just used them out of curiosity and in the hope of having a good time without spending money or risking arrest. They certainly stopped me from getting bored. They go...

I can learn directions, but I have to more or less make it a special interest before I can fathom it. People would probably think I was very strange if they saw all the research I do and the information I carry about with me to get from A to B if it's a new place. I can get lost very easily. I becam...

I doubt a disabled person could get a landlord to do much for them in Arkansas. The state law is the worst in the USA for tenants, and gives them no rights at all, except for one or two basic health and safety matters. So if ignoring disability was clearly going to lead to a definite and severe hea...

It's just a euphemism for "old," not that I think old people are necessarily inferior overall, but society has a bit of a prejudice about anything old, which is why advertisers use the word "new" so much. Anyway, just as "old" is a bit of a vague term, so is "senio...

^ Maybe, but I suspect that many people like to have emotional support so that they feel strong enough to find their own solutions. Morale seems to be a great enabler. I've not noticed it work that way very much in my own case, but I've certainly been more able to fix problems when I've felt confide...

I've never tried Velcro shoes, but I can see the advantage if they're designed well. I can tie laces, but I'd rather not have to bother because I get bored with mundane or fiddly tasks that can't be developed any further. And my cat plays with the laces while I'm trying to tie them. So a good pair o...

I prefer Spock because he commands more respect from the other characters, though I haven't seen many Data episodes. I'd just rather see logical people in more dignified positions on the media, to help teach the public to stop looking down on them.

I hope I'm more like Spock than Data.

Maybe the packaging on the product brainwashed the other person into buying it? I suppose packaging does influence people, otherwise they wouldn't bother adding the "artwork." But I have trouble taking on board the idea that any adult can be so easily influenced as to copy somebody else ju...
