I have problems too. Although I have a high GPA, I find it difficult to learn in a class if the teacher isn't fast paced or exceedingly interesting. My mind shuts off in those circumstances, making it significantly more difficult for me to learn in class. I find myself better off reading the book fo...

When a teacher reiterates the same information over and over again, I tune out because I already know what he or she is saying and am consequently unable to hold my attention. However, when it comes to the end of the class, I miss many parts of the lesson other students get in the class because I wa...

Me: "I'm asking you becasue I want to do this right." Him: "Well what do you think the right answer is?" Me: "If I knew that I would not be asking you." (Though I never really said that. I'm not one to do that stuff.) Maybe you should tell him that not everyone shares the same general assumptions a...

Pretty much. I need things really well explained to me, which often doesn't happen so I screw up and have to learn from my mistakes. It was a lot worse when I was younger. I wouldn't try new things because I really didn't want to unless I was sure I'd be good at it. I find at work when they quickly...

Same here it the person is not going to tell me what is need to be done at lest step by step then don't tell me how to do it. I also really dislike when they think I should already know something. If I already knew it why would I be asking? I also dislike when I'm given one thing to do and then tol...

In life I either have to have things clear cut or learn the hard way. Anyone else the same way? I don't pick up on things through osmosis unless something takes my interest. My learning is either deliberate or through hard experiences.

I was reading somewhat before age 3, in the dark ages before phonics. These responses are very interesting. My mother told me the opposite; that sight words are a more recent development. I had to research it myself and found that this is a debate that continued over the past century. I'm more keen...

I don't want an implant pumping out hormones. I do plan to get surgically sterilized. At the moment, I'm single, so it isn't an issue. And one, I don't see having an abortion as irresponsible. I think in many situations it's the most responsible thing you can do. Two, I don't care if it is 'escapin...

The right not to have a child if you don't want one is why I think birth control and adoption need to be easier to access. How many times do I have to say it?--This isn't me being against people having their rights; it's me saying that there's more than just one person's rights involved. If I didn'...

If the deadline is Tuesday, I do my work on Monday night or Tuesday morning. Is that what executive functions are? I thought everyone - except our OCD brethren - worked like that. I get around the deadline problems by setting milestones along the way, and around the working memory problems with che...

I have executive dysfunction. If the deadline is Tuesday, I do my work on Monday night or Tuesday morning. Moving the deadline to Friday wouldn't make me finish it sooner. I would naturally do the work on Thursday night or Friday morning. The closer I am to the deadline, the faster and more efficien...

I read sight words at 3 and the simplest books such "Dick and Jane" aloud. I had some understanding of phonics but it was not explicitly taught. However, it was at 5 when my mother taught me how to truly master phonics and could read more unfamiliar words. When did I learn, 3 or 5?

I'm not seeing any impoliteness here, really. I agree, the serious debaters are handling themselves... seriously. But I would suggest a re-reading of post #1: IF you desire abortion you are a selfish, murdering scumbag . It's pretty clear; Poster #2 got it right away and so did I. I don't think con...

No. That's why we must have stronger willpower than they do. We should put our hyperfocus and perserverance to good use. Fight fight fight until they are forced to give in. I'm proud to say I have an extremely strong willpower when I truly want to accomplish a task.
