I was thinking about doing physical therapy when I was in high school, and did a 2 month internship the summer between my junior and senior year. Basically all I was allowed to do was replace the sheets on the therapy beds and be present when the therapist worked with patients that didn't mind some ...

Khaleesi97, On behalf of my younger self, I'd like offer you some advice.... There is a very, very high chance that your aspie friend may not work up the courage to fulfill the "chaser" role in the relationship game, even if he is very interested. You may need to take on that roll and be the one to ...

I had problems like you're describing. For me, the dificulty was more with having to organizing my thoughts to get the written response correct on the first try. Failure to do so means you have to erase or crossout the mistake, then your work just gets messy. I often answered with simple responses, ...

Non-visual thinker 1 (Mathematics, Statistics, Computer programming) It could be interesting to see if there are actually many more visual thinkers than non-visual thinkers That would actually follow the trend found in the general population. Roughly 65% of the general population use visual thinking...

As far as jobs go, disclosure is your choice (with the exception of jobs like the military or police). Disclosing depends on weather or not you need any kind of accommodations. You have a bit of time before you need to worry about that. Regarding what the diagnosis and discovery/confirmation of stro...

I can't wait for my parents to find out that the star of Christmas Shoes 2 (yes they made me watch it, and they are extremely religious) is gay. It was so hard for me to not bring this up around the grand kids (my nieces and nephews) every time he kissed the lead actress.

in fact, this is a requirement for diagnosis I don't think that's correct. It's something the doctors look for, but it is NOT a requirement for diagnosis. To answer your question though - I think it depends on the person. I think my deficits (no visual spacial ability) are directly related to conne...

I remember reading that 65% of the general population thinks primarily in images. I can't think in images (at all) and I've asked a lot of friends, family members, and coworkers about their thinking style. Almost everyone I've asked (mostly NT) think primarily in images. I think the difference betw...

I'm sure anxiety will impact the test, but I don't know if it would effect the PIQ/VIQ difference. I wouldn't worry too much about the PIQ/VIQ thing. The PIQ/VIQ difference just shows that your information processing isn't even across all areas. I think examining your social skills would be a better...

I have the PIQ>VIQ split; almost the exact VIQ and PIQ scores you got. I also have a visual spatial deficit (absolutely no ability to visualize anything in my minds eye). When I had an IQ test done as part of my AS assessment, I was positive the results would be VIQ>PIQ, but it turned out that I did...

It sounds like you are on your way to a more peaceful state of mind, honestly. The more comfortable I become with myself > the less I fit in > the odder I probably appeared to others > the less I cared about social oopes > the less anxiety I had > the better I felt. Go ahead... grab a hold of your g...

I've been attending a Aspie group for a few years and it's been helpful. There's just some Aspie social stuff that only other Aspies seem to understand. It's nice to be able to talk about that sort of thing without being given worthless/thoughtless cliche advice or odd looks. I also found that the d...

By the way - my brother has got autism - pretty severe, so I can't imagine why they didn't make the connection. It was probably because you could talk. Before AS was added to the DSM, it was unheard of to diagnose someone with Autism if they could talk. I know... the whole timeline and doctors not ...

I went through a phase where I was upset with the people that should have helped me too. We're about the same age, so maybe my reason for forgiving them may work for you too. AS wasn't in the DSM until a couple years before I graduated high school. It takes a while before a new diagnosis will be wel...

This is something that I've seen to some extent myself since figuring it out. I don't really know why, so I'm just guessing here, but basically I've come up with two reasons for it. One is like you said - it's taken some of the pressure to be "normal" off, and there's less desire or feelings like i...
