and/or childhood depression? My DD is 11 and in the process of getting evaluated privately and within the public school. Lately there has been suicide ideation and a depressed mood more than anything. Plus a lot of talk about wanting to "fit In' and be "popular" (Oh God, I hate middle school!) It br...

Who suggested that your child may have as? The teacher, how old is the child? Are you making this assumption? Get him/her evaluated by a psychologist or neuropsychologist that specializes in AS and get the anwers there. I am in the process of this right now. The psychologist doesn't think it is glar...

while I have a daughter and not a son and she is younger, age 11, I find a great outlet for her is doing community service. It takes the focus off of her problems and on to others'. I am the scout leader and have been for five years. It is a heck of a lot of work but in the long wrong I think it is ...

My daughter is 11 and while I know I am responsible for some of her problems because of my own yelling, being overwhelmed with work/home responsibilities, my own depression, etc. I am desperately trying to yell at all. I haven't raised my voice since October now. Yesterday I yelled at my younger son...

At what age did you start antidepressants? Which one? Did it help? How long did you need to stay on? How often did the psychatrist monitor you? Thanks!! Lucy :D

Are any of you on antidepressants and when did you start? Did they help? My daughter is 11 and very depressed. Want to get her evaled by a psychatrist, just wondering if meds did help and at what point. Also for girls, what is the best advice you can give a perfectionist that constantly compares her...

You have all been wonderfully supportive and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I do love my child and just want her to be happy. Really I am starting to see it's not the AS part that upsets me it's her comorbid depression. I just hate to see her so sad. Things hopefully will get better! Thanks.

and interesting videotape. It doesn't really matter who has AS but just hoping to have some positive aspects to educate my child with when and if I do chose to disclose the information. Emily Dickinison is well respected in my household, along with Lincoln and Gates so I was just curious. Thanks

My 11 year-old daughter has not been officially diagnosed yet. I feel very isolated and am wanting to discuss her issues with people in my community. It is a very small town however and people are prejudice to those that are different. My daugther doesn't want anyone to know she will be undergoing e...

My plan is to find someone who specializes in CBT and go from there. That combined with psychotherapy once a week hopefully will do the trick. I may have her evaluated by a child psychatrist however to see what they say and get a baseline eval in the event things take a turn for the worse in the fut...

Just thinking down the road my daughter may need this. She has been "feeling sad" since second grade so it's been about three years. We have seen her up and down, in therapy, she says she can be happy at times but there is always a sadness there. I know we will need to exhaust all the therapies, she...

and she attends religion classes weekly as well. She actually makes us get up and go and feel somewhat guilty if we miss it. She gets some kind of calmness from it and enjoys the singing I think. It's a progressive, positive church overall and she is older. When she was younger it was harder. I thin...

on the table. Right now my 11 year-old DD liked school up until the past week actually. I have privately thought that maybe I would move her to a private school but it hasn't come up. I want her to be socialized as much as possible. I see when she is away from her peers for an extended length of tim...
