I noticed the past few weeks that my boy has been giving incredible eye contact. Finally I said something to him about how impressed I am with his advancement and he was a grinning fool. He has this beautiful smile that doesn't come out very often - usually after he's done a chore without being bugg... |

We're looking at specialty schools for him. He needs a lot of day to day help and would not thrive at a regular boarding school for that reason. This is something very new we've been discussing, only this past week, and have not even brought the idea up to him. I know that will be a big part of it, ... |

I’m feeling really horrible about this and have to get it out in a place people will understand and help. We’re contemplating the possibility of sending our boy to a specialized school. Let me explain - He’s 15 and is not getting the help he needs in school. He’s not doing ba... |

I am flabberghasted!
I lived with an aspie BF for five years and that's nothing like my life with him. Her absolutes make me cringe and itch.
Not only have I sent a personal email, but I have reported her to the AMA for the site. |

Yes, volunteering is something that looks great on college resumes, but so does doing something obscure. Build a ten foot trebujet! Get creative doing something with all the reading and research you do. It's initiative that colleges look for, not the actual groups you're in. The initiative to join t... |

The last thing you want to do to a child (or anyone) with AS is pigeon hole them because of their problems. Sadly our little troll seems to be trying to do just that.
Obviously he's suffering from the same thing he's suggesting. |

I know those things will happen and he will be taken down a peg. But my real concern is that he's going to piss someone off with his ego and get his ass kicked in an extreme way. He's a good sized boy - not huge at all, but not little. He's about 5foot10 and 180lbs-ish. He's not muscular, actually a... |

Of my boy's two good friends, one has been formally diagnosed as being on the spectrum - somewhere - but the other hasn't. There's a question about the un-diagnosed boy's mother being possibly on the spectrum, so who knows. But watching them together is great! Last summer we went to our local small ... |

My boy's bio-mother suffers from severe depression, borderline personality disorder and most likely narcissistic personality disorder herself - so this would not shock me. We do not know what her exact diagnoses are as she believes she's absolutely perfect, other than she feels she has to see a shri... |

This came up in another thread and thought it would be interesting to expound upon as I thought I was the only one dealing with the problem. My dear stepson (15) has a huge ego. He was diagnosed when he was seven, but always displayed problems. His biological mother always told him how perfect and w... |

I'm also the stepmom to a male teen (15) with AS, so I understand where the OP is coming from on a lot of levels. The one level that did bother me was that she said she "I am a licensed and certified speech-language pathologist and am a director of special education with a lot of experience working ... |

My boy (15) does not understand reinforcements or repercussions most of the time. He just does not correllate his bad grades with us not letting him play video games. In his head we're being incredibly mean and are arbitrarily taking away his video games, even after explaining daily that he's not al... |

I just wanted to step in and introduce myself. I live just south-ish of Augusta, my state's capitol. My name's Kendra, but most people call me Ken. I'm 35 and moved in with my boyfriend this past year. That means I not only live with the man I love, but also his three wonderful kids who he has almos... |

I'd love an answer - or at least ideas - about this too. My stepson is 15 and we have an almost identical issue. In the morning my SO has to knock on the bathroom door a half dozen times to get him out of the shower so his brother can get in. It takes a huge amount of time for him to get dressed, ta... |

I walked into this much later than most parents as I am the evil stepmom. My sweet boy was barely 14 when I met him and I was at a loss. Through it all I see amazing days and other days that I think we should all be locked in our rooms for everyone's safety! He has SAD, so every winter is incredibly... |
