I dislike shopping very much. I'm not interested in fashion... in fact I hate most of the clothes that are purportedly fashionable. I was happiest with my clothes when I bought stuff at goodwill and altered it to fit. I'm just not inclined anymore to comb through a smelly store looking for pants tha...

pansexual man trapped in a woman's body. I don't get gender differences for the most part. I do get reproduction and the necessity for someone with a uterus to carry a fetus to term. beyond that, I think people make too big a deal out of sex, gender, and sexuality. my son just came out as bisexual a...

horses were my special interest. I read every horse book I could lay hands on including every novel published and non-fiction titles on topics like horse-breeding, training, and tack making. I worked at the stable, I slept at the stable if I could get away with it, I skipped school to be at the stab...

good clip. the part where they talk about the school staff member thinking it's a parenting issue... ouch. that hurts so much. I got a lot of that from everywhere before my son was dx'd. as a girl I masked to please, but could never maintain for long. that was a long time ago so I wouldn't have got ...

I've never lived with the expectations for men, only those for women, so I don't know what it's like to fail at being a man, only what it's like to fail as a woman. I wasn't supportive enough as a wife. apparently the way to be a supportive wife is to praise a man for "helping" around the house and ...

trying to fit in as a teenager was an epic failure. I'd never go back and relive it. I didn't do well with authoritarian "because I said so" policies in school. I still chafe at rules that don't make sense, and most social rules don't make sense to me.

I am AS, my son is AS, my daughter is NT/ADHD. it's possible I inherited spectrumite genes from both sides since I have a maternal half sib with AS, but I think my dad was very much AS. unfortunately he passed away before I was dx'd so I can't get additional information from him.

hair on my legs hurts my skin, but I hate shaving so a while back I invested in laser hair removal. it was the best investment ever because now my legs don't hurt and I never think about them. I have the same sensory issues with any hair on my body with an irregular root. I have to pluck it out or I...

thanks for sharing your experience, dtoxic. I'm a bit enamored with the combustibles but to make my daughter happy I'm going to have to settle for magic. she came up with a flawless logical argument as to why I should do so, and I'm currently unable to refute her argument with anything other than "b...

wow, you are full of fun facts! piezoelectric crystals might actually be what I want. I don't understand the math at all, but if I can get a basic grasp on how it works, it would solve all my problems. more research!! ! thanks ValMikeSmith! I am really very happy right now. I have no one to talk to ...

oh yeah! I love it when Mythbusters blow stuff up with thermite. I forgot all about thermite. I could never be an explosives expert, I guess.

more to add to my reading list! Sand, you are a font of information.

I'm feeling a bit obsessed with thermite now....

I have so many questions to ask but first I'd better understand the basics of the types of energy (radioactice, chemical) and the effects of their release. maybe I can be more coherent once I've grasped those.

thanks for setting me on a track!

If it's not radioactive energy it probably is chemical energy and if enough chemical energy is released it comes out as either heat or an increase in volume or both. An explosive does this as does a match which is not quite so spectacular. Nitrogen iodide is a rather neat explosive made by soaking ...

thanks pakled. you do have a point that unless I explain what I want to do, no one will have any idea how to help me. my hope is to introduce the practical uses of the periodic table and a basic understanding of molecules even if I have to invent a molecule or alloy to make it interesting. I need to...
