Dear Civet, My husband just figured out at age 55 that he has Asperger's. He was misdiagnosed years ago with OCD, after he was sent home from an engineering project for being too controling and disruptive. I'll spare you the details on how we've failed marriage counseling five times, and I always kn...

Dear Dizzy, My 55 year old Aspie husband grew up being bullied in school, and at age 55 has even been bullied at work. He had one particular person at work that made him the brunt of down-talking, and every joke he could make up. My husband went in his office and slammed the door behind him and told...

I would suggest that if you were professionally diagnosed, why not talk to that person about the pros and cons. We talked to a neuropsychologist that interviewed my husband for almost 3 hours, and since my husband is age 55 and just now finding out, we don't think it's smart for him to divulge it at...

Amen, Sweetheart! I've been married to an Aspie for 15 years, and he stopped bothering to send signals from the hour we drove off on our honeymoon. However, prior to marriage, he knew he had to get motivated with some signals to get the altar. (Still trying to figure out his motivation for that.) Tr...

This is very interesting, and I appreciate your taking the time to share it with us. My husband is an engineer with AS.

My husband has problems not being able to put into action what he's told he needs to change. I was hoping beyond hope that a good therapist would know how to reach him. His AS affects both his marriage and his career and WANTS both.

There has been some success in working with scripting, in those with AS. To comment on the above response that the person does not think it will do any good, let me be sure we are all talking about apples and apples, not apples vs. oranges: If a person with AS has social traits that are not serving ...

I think you and I have the same mother! My mother has told me on serveral occasions that I am too sensitive. Now, she will call and want to know what is going on, and I only tell her "small talk" stuff. And, once when I told a psychologist that my family thinks I am too sensitive, she replied that t...

Not only would my husband be interested in participating, it's exactly what he's been hoping to find. We've been running around like chickens with our heads cut off looking for this kind of help. We salute you! :D

You may be interested to know that my 55 year old husband grapples with the same question...whether to divulge his AS to his peers at work. He has decided not to do it. First of all, as young as you are, you still own your life. If you are not feeling comfortable about divulging, then maybe your int...

Even though I am an NT, I know a bit about depression. I had my first nasty encounter with it at age 20, and now at 58, I understand it more. I have tried every anti depressant known to man and they make me as sick as a dog. St. John's Wort works well for me because I am just to drug sensitive to th...

There is hardly a day that goes by that I don't hear about something that George Bush has done that I don't think, "What in the h... must he be smoking!?!" I live in a small SC town. I love Kerry...and Edwards is OK too, but here's what really brings it home for me. I was in the office supply store ...

My Aspie husband has a well above average I.Q. He uses it to be precise and will often interrupt people to correct them, since he always knows better. This trait has not served him well operating in a world of NT's. And by the way, I know of many NT's, including his colleagues, that probably have I....

Wow can I ever relate to those that talk about following driving and travel directions, and being good with those. My husband is an Aspie. We are not big travelers at all, but once he was working on a project in Amsterdam and I met him over there. I was amazed at how we went everywhere from Volendam...
