Question for NTs: Is it actually socially inappropriate to laugh at one's own joke and if it is why is it? In social skills groups ,as a child/ young teenager ,one thing taught was not to laugh at one's own joke but I see socially adept NTs doing this a lot. Is it something to do with the social co...

And how did you know that this wasn't just one crazy guy but the normal, accepted situation in society? I didn't know what was normal. But I'm guessing that from that experience, I created an unsaid rule in my mind that landlords are authority figures and have power over renters, to the extent that...

Thank you very much, DenvrDave. Did you know this rule of landlords in my example because you had a bad experience in that regard, though? No bad experiences with landlords. But I recall reading the first lease that I had to sign (about 25 yrs ago - ugh) and thinking "wow, that's pretty restrictive...

How do NTs learn certain "unsaid" rules, such as "you behave more compliantly to someone in a position of authority over you, such as a landlord? I only recently discovered that customarily a landlord has more authority than a tenant. I had always thought we were equal, seeing as I receive a roof a...

From an aspie to the NT's. What does it mean (particularly when put in a dating site profile) "I work hard and play harder". What is the sentiment/attitude that the person wants to convey - for me it just turns me right off and leads me to think the person saying this thinks too much of herself. It...

Can you help me think of some strategies in terms of breaking through, considering that reading body language and implied meanings is almost impossible for me in a social situation? I just don't want to be barred from attending any study groups, etc, because after all, they could always tell me the...

Since the time I was diagnosed and learned how to communicate better with my wife and kids...the electronics age has given my family such wonders as the Kindle, etc. And the more I attempt to engage in family communication, the more my family is becoming locked into...

I disagree that people with AS can become frustrated more easily than people without AS...in general. And while we are on the subject, do I find it frustrating that as a person with AS people make completely invalid assumptions about me based on their limited knowledge of AS and of me as an individ...

You know what's strange is that there has been little to no mention about the other attributes of Asperger Syndrome that would've been picked up if Adam Lanza really had Asperger's. I'm talking about the stimming, the monotone speech, the poor eye contact in conversation, the sensitivity to certain...
